Yet there's a heavily invested private venture to sell Australian solar energy to Singapore. If private investors think it's viable and think they can send the power to Singapore, then surely the technology is there to overcome all of your above blockers.

A$20 billion for 3 gigawatts of power. Battery storage. Transmitted over 3800kms. No problems generating it, but I'd like to see the transmission losses. It would be interesting to see the concept in full detail.

Just an aside, In 2018, Australia generated 261,405 GWh. Renewables contributed 49!339 (19%). There's a. fair bit of investment required here. No doubt it would need major private investors, what would be the cost I wonder, both in investment and what would the average consumer have to pay?

Just sayin'. You won' see an article about it like you do before every hot day, screaming 'HEATWAVE!'. The warming narrative is creating false perceptions among the general public.

What false perceptions are they?

It is warming, the evidence is there, do you think it isn't warming?

It’s warming imperceptibly. The weather hasn’t turned “wild” and isn’t doing anything “unprecedented”. But go ahead and lose your mind anyway.

It's the language surrounding it that is irritating. "apocolyptic" . "climate emergency", "climate crisis". It's all emotive and fear inducing. Any type of extreme weather event is now the fault of global warming.

Its interesting that when the right uses similar emotive and fear inducing language regarding terrorists, youth gangs, boat people etc they are loudly condemned. And rightly so in most instances.

IIRC you've agreed in the past that the global warming stats are based on average temperature not what happens day to day.

Sure, but I'm not picking out a single cold day like the papers do.

Yesterday's HS promised the day in Melbourne would be "hot and humid". Humid it was, but the top temperature was 23.2.

(The top was actually 22.9 but for a gust of warm wind at 1:00pm which artificially raised the official max to 23.2.)

poor old MD is getting irritated. They should tone it all down to avoid that. Seriously though it makes me laugh this why do the pointy head leftys have to be so fear inducing line. Its like wanting an ambulance driver to say some slight injuries were sustained in a car crash when the driver was beheaded.

I have recently watched a documentary on Netflix called the mind of Bill Gates. It concentrated on how his mind works, his massive intellect and some of the things the Gates Foundation are doing. The 3 it covered were clean and affordable toilets and drinking water in the 3rd world, the eradication of polio and climate change.
As an aside there was little discussion on climate change itself, Bill Gates accepts the science after researching it and accepts that it’s happening.
His response that the foundation is funding is a new form of nuclear power generation. I don’t totally understand it but it is about significantly reducing to risk of a nuclear accident and also the type of uranium used as well as a major reduction in radioactive waste. He actually had (has) an agreement with China to build a prototype reactor which he did with Xi Jinping himself but that deal was scuppered by the trade war between China and the US.
I’m not a scientist, I’ve already said that on these pages, but its worthwhile watching if you are because it seems to me that the negatives against nuclear power are those he is seeking to alleviate.
Whatever anyone feels about Bill Gates the businessman he does have a mind like a steel trap, it’s formidable. He and others in his team make the point the nuclear reactor design had not really been updated for 50 years.
It was very interesting to me that someone like him would pick that to invest serious amounts of money in as a response to climate change.
