reminds me of me 15-20 years ago when we were sh!t and the AFL started moving the game towards the plug hole.

The AFL players play for
their teams because they're who they are, they play in a certain city and play during a 6 month period during winter. That's what they signed up for.
Cricketers, golfers and tennis players all know being away from home before they even start playing their sport.
And all the other sports pay 10 times more then the average footballer.
Maxwell was on £300k for a stint at county side in England.
Have a look a Tomic worse sports person in the world but has homes in Europe and Queensland and drives a $250000 car.
AFL isn't a sport without the crowds.

Not sure why anyone would complain about a month away from the family at this stage.
Don't agree. They are being asked to leave their families, many with small kids, at a time when people can't rely on relatives, friends etc for assistance. We're in a pandemic and the last thing I'd want to be is away from my family because they are the #1 priority and we are in extraordinary times.
To make it worse they'll be playing a *smile* u season, no crowds and stuck living 24x7 with other football types.
Players are just humans with families and the same fears as all of us. Blaming them is just swallowing the AFL driven narrative to pressure them into accepting a stupid idea.
Pathetic? You do realise that Jack has a very young child.
Nobody has any idea what these players are dealing with in their personal lives.
Until you walk in someone else's shoes, to call them pathetic is extremely unfair.

Just refreshed News.com and saw the headline "AFL announces season return plan". I thought, great, let's see what the plan is. Opened up the page and, sure enough, the announcement is that the AFL plan to announce something later in the month. WTF was the point of that?
I think comparing people going to the war is a bit silly. People sign up to be in the military knowing that is a huge possibility and they and there family know this. They are also well looked after financially for each tour they do.
Silly analogy, this isn't war. But even during war the wife/partner with kids could go to Grandma's, or have grandma come over, or an aunt to help. In the current situation, there is no prospect of outside help for the family unit left behind.
If there is any family emergency, the player won't be able to return back immediately due to the 2 week quarantine everywhere. The players might be safer, but nothing changes for the family left behind.
Let's use Coth as an example. Chimp has three three young Children. His wife will have to single handedly manage that household and 3 young kids on her own. No help from outside. Setting aside the emotional, physical impact on the wife, imagine if the baby gets sick or needs hospitalisation for anything. Cotchin can't just fly back, he's got to serve a 2 week quarantine before being allowed out again. That's two weeks of not being there for his family when they need him. And for what? Some Mickey Mouse farce of an AFL season?
If players have an issue with doing that to their familes then anyone thinking clearly will see it's a very valid concern and reason not to support the AFL's version of Love Island
Joy to fans? Seeing a confected *smile* no fans game just to give some product to the media broadcasters? Hardly joy. Not sure about anyone else but after seeing the souless Rd 1 game against the Blues, I'd rather wait a few more months longer to see a real game with fans there rather than another Rd 1 affair.
The mentioned shared high performance teams too. With our HP team being regarded as one of the best around, is it really in our own players interests to be managed by others?

And ww2 many men were forced to go to war,if u can't do such a small tiny thing as staying away from family for a month in order to help many others get some income,then your a out of touch big big income earner whom doesn't understand players like marlion,and many on much lower incomes on bottom 5 of list incomes,for them it's a I must must play as I'm not on half a million,I'm on a fraction of that,many friends I know work 4-6 weeks away from home as it's their chance of a decent income,now all players must give back in order for many to prosper.
I spent 26 years ADF (RAN). Great life but after one got wed longest time apart was we spent one weekend together in nine months. That included over Xmas/New Year overseas. We did it because that was our livelihood. Now today we have the AFl in turmoil with a resumption including teams being zoned thus players being away from loved ones for ex amount of times. Players current contracts would not include this relocation clause in their contracts so I am of the opinion players do not have to play if they do not want to . I would say a huge majority of players will have to play because of mortgages,hire purchases etc etc so it will interesting to see if any fall by the wayside due to family separation.
