Short and sweet today as have other things i need to do.

2 Hour session initially included in 1st part were high intensity shuttles, so it was a shuttle then 30 sec gap straight into a full ground sprint, that process was repeated 3 times. Was split into 2 groups, the 1st a larger group which you would consider the runners, whilst you needed to split into 2 for congestion purposes the 2nd smaller group is obviously for the taller players or those that would get embarrassed in the main group in this group were Stack and Egg who pretty much came last in both.

Moving on to 3/4 of matchplay, (keep in mind that it was the A team vs the B team).

Dusty absolutely bloody unbelievable and hate repeating myself but if this form carries over it is not fair on the competition.
Usually it is Dusty 1st daylight 2nd, today it was Dusty 1st Shai 2nd:)), (and not by much), breathtaking stuff by Shai.
Georgie performed a replica of his GF specky.
Prestia/Edwards/JR8 other high level performers.
Higgo and Stack were playing in the red bibs, (meaning the 2nd string side).
Cotch did not play the 3rd quarter but rather ran laps, hopefully nothing to worry about?
No sign of Bachar so must be rehabbing away from group so we need to ponder his replacement against pies.

That's all folks.

Disappointing that Egg hasn't improved his endurance capacity. He would be a great Bachar replacement but Bachar and Egg are chalk and cheese athletically.

Some worrying signs regarding Stack.
Chosen in the Round 1 side but something has happened over the last 2 months. Maybe a lack of commitment or just a *smile* haircut?

More disappointing is Egg's lack of professionalism and dedication, not giving himself a chance, gone for mine.

Hazard to guess that it is partly indicative that some young kids will go backwards without the disciplined club environment.

Stack is barely 18 months into his career as a professional athlete. It takes time to build a fitness base as well as the commitment and discipline needed to maintain it. Given his immense talent and his output so far he’ll be given plenty of chances to get it right.

Eggs, on the other hand is f**ked.

Spare parts now KMac. Not starting 22. Naish, Ross, Graham all vying for that role.
My first thought was that ideally Ross and Graham are playing more inside roles, and not out on the wing.
But 2 key objectives of the wing is to stop the switch - opposition ball movement, and to assist in defense. Both require strong bullocking work and enormous defesive running.

Graham might be a good call.
Naish needs to win 1on1s.
KMac suits this spot, so I see him in the box seat.

Cheers for the reports, fantastic as usual. Just on Cotch i'd say he's being managed, especially with a recent history of hammy issues. We don't need to "do a Collingwood" & have guys breaking down

Think we have to smart how we go about these 3 weeks of training.

Players from other clubs are falling down , either incidental or accidental injuries.

We learnt a lot about ourselves, our group of players & our depth. Can we get away with it again in a shortened season is going to be the thing that seperate us from the contenders.

Sport science & our training program will determine how far we go & if we contend again as it will for most of the challengers.

The team/players who had done the work prior to Cov-19, the 8 weeks in isolation and this ore season training block.

I can see a spate of injuries in the first couple of rounds. My view. Hope I’m wrong. We have already one youngster gone for the year & Houli Douli in doubt.

I personally would have liked the AFL to not have rushed to re start. To gave given clubs another couple of weeks, even 1 practice match.

It’s going to be hard to access players when there will be no VFL, SANFL, WAFL , Queensland leagues for players to try and break into sides.

It will mainly go on past form & track form I guess.

Whoever wins this years flag will be a most worthy winner. Through adversity we have shown to be that club. Genuine, honest, humble & caring for their fellow team mate & opponents alike. There is nothing fake about the RFC.

13 days.

Can’t wait to hopefully make a statement against the Pies.

How do you think we'll manage the second-tier players with no VFL to get matchplay and match fitness into them, @The Big Richo? We'll need to keep these guys physically and mentally involved throughout, but winning games while managing workloads of young and old alike will be a crucial part of this season ITBHO.

It's a bloody good question TBH and one that the entire AFL is grappling with I think.

We won't see our guys mixed with 'amateur' professionals in a VFL type arrangement so I would think it will be heavy match sims in training, perhaps some creativity in game style like AFLX or 9 a side or we may well see multiple clubs combine to make a couple of teams for scratchies.

The other real challenge is keeping an even playing field. It's easy for the Melbourne clubs to get some competition and the clubs in hubs but the you have the NSW clubs two out and all of them will be if hubs relax.

I can't imagine the AFL could sanction Victorian teams combining unless they were prepared to facilitate travel for the interstate clubs to do the same and that will be costly. We may start to see the fixture arranged so scratchies happen around the same time eg in round 5 we could play a combined game with West Coast, Port and Brisbane who will all be in QLD but that changes the travel protocols pretty significantly.

Nothing is easy this season unfortunately.

Sorry to hassle you with another question, but in your opinion will older players definately benefiet from this extra time off, or will the down time put them at more risk due to they're bodies maybe not being as hardened to afl stresses for a prolonged period? Probably a dumb question but I know very little about this sort of thing.

Is there any reason why we can't pull in state league players as 'supp list' players for each club who are happy to be subject to the AFL's strict biosecurity protocols and then play reserves games?

Are they though?

https://www.afl.com.au/news/384197/the-full-afl-injury-list-round-one

Check out the injury list at round one after a normal preseason. There's certainly nothing in the past couple of weeks that is out of step with usual attrition rates and if anything the trend is down.

I wouldn't stress too much about us yet either. Cumberland's knee is unfortunate but first and second year players injured at training represent a significant portion of serious knee injuries. It's an unavoidable cost of developing young players while they do not yet have the strength work under their belts. Houli is really in the chronic category now with his calf so again nothing too concerning about his issues.

There will be injuries when we resume, as there always have been and always will be, and some clubs will get a good run and some will get a poor run. We will all just cross our fingers and hope for the best because that is about as much as we can do.

The good thing we have going for us though is winning a flag after using 39 players in a season. I don't know the stats but that must rank right up there with the most ever and is a really extraordinary number. Probably something that doesn't get the credit or notice it should, but suffice to say we would fear injuries less than any other side in the competition.
Cotchin even said on radio today our focus has been on preventing injuries. this yr u need a fit list even more than ever.
Look at the #PiesHaveInjuries for example, they just completed a review of thier medical dept. last yr & still now have the same players getting the same injuries again. Especially last yr our crew have done very well in this area & i back them in to do it all again.

How to manage those guys not in the snrs is the $Million question. Unless they can get "scratch matches" over the line it'll be pretty much impossible to get them match fit & also impossible to keep them involved when they won't be allowed to attend matches & see how the guys prepare on game day etc.

Probably a bit of both.

I dare say loss of focus more than commitment.

Stackie looks like he is one of those lads that needs to be immersed within the club and the team environment to drive him, he probably doesnt have the desire to do the hard yards on his own without being pushed to do it by the group. Hence why he wasn't drafted initially.

Hes obviously earned himself a foot up the arse as part of the reserves training team.

His form in round 1 wasn't anything to write home about either.

Maybe the kid got a little comfortable in regard to his spot, and has lost sight of what got him to the level last year..

A reality check and foot up the arse will be good for him but not as much as training back with his team mates.will be, he'll bounce back quickly.

I'm thinking/hoping that is the case. Get him back to proper schedule and he should be right.

He's super talented, no doubt.

Laziness will have to worked out of him and I'm sure Dimma and his teammates will give the right amount of carrot and stick.

He won't play round 2 and nor should he.

Stack was also in the "ressie's" training team before Rd 1 too & he still got the call up. Those back in less than great shape will be found out very quickly.
