Jack Riewoldt [Merged]

I just have one thing to say after yesterday.

no man.jpg
Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Jack's a long way from done. Back our man. He'll go when it's time. It's not time.

Malthouse had a few words to say about it today & I tend to agree with him. The 4 goals papered over a few cracks for mine. Just the way he got them.
I'm still not seeing the Jack of old, more like an old Jack. He's going ok but just ok.

dont agree at all. misses the point, Jack is there for experience, nouse and leadership now. He's still worth a spot taking all that away, and that could change and change quickly. But right here, right now, he's a brilliant second string/ foil. Full stop, even when he's out of form.

besides, we've got young mercurial, unpredictable, sidestepping, wizardry coming out of our arse, we need some old school veteran forward foil.

Jack has always been a yard slow. WTF is Mick on about? But I agree his leap has deserted him. But he has elite footy IQ which will stand him in good stead for another year or so (if he wants it)

I don't think Mick is wrong, Reiwoldt has looked a bit slower and older. He is clearly getting closer to retirement. Mick Malthouse also pointed out that Riewoldt has been a key forward for 12-13 years, he is right, that really does take a toll.

But Riewoldt still has a bit of time left. He has footy smarts, he can be a foil to Lynch and in the process get a few goals by leading in a different direction. The opposition can't ignore that he is there. One of the keys to this is being able to slot some goals from maybe 40-50m out. He kicked a nice one from 45 last night and that was significant as his kicking has been a bit off. It also means the opposition have to put some effort into making sure he doesn't mark it, they can't have 3 up against Lynch and leave Riewoldt alone, even if he is marking 40 out. Throw Mabs in there when he isn't in the ruck and suddenly we have 3 tall forwards the opposition have to mind. So Riewoldt can pick up a few kicks, score a few goals, and then there's Martin hanging around too. If Riewoldt was our sole spearhead I would be worried, but in combination with Lynch, Chol at times, Martin going forward for parts of games, the smalls prowling around, he can continue to contribute to a potent forward line.

All this depends on us continuing to get good forward entry though, nothing can fix rubbish forward entries.

The days of Jack and big hauls are over. Reckon he knows his role and is happy to play it.

I think he'll still be valuable, he looks like he's accepted the fact he is in the hub now and getting on with it.

Champion 31yo plays like a champion 31yo.

Does this really need analysis?

Spot on. His smarts will still take him to the right and dangerous spots.

Agree with everyone ......but ......
At some stage you need to plan for life after Jack.

We can afford to keep Jacks experience, and less goals, while we play Chol and Nank, then Chol and CCJ,
They are mobile enough to not make our forward line too top heavy, and are competitive rucks and around the ground, who will develop alongside Jack and Lynch.
Those combinations leaves the interchange rotations for the runners.

Unfortunately playing Soldo throws this balance out.

FWIW...JR should have kicked 6 against the Lions.
There would be no discussion then.
He still has the leap and is the smartest player on our list.
Took time to get going this season but so did everyone.
He will be better as the season progresses.
Big game player ...not early season. Wait and see.
JR Lynch and Dusty up forward is the envy of every club.

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry;
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.

Can't believe they'll rub him our for that.

Can't jump and take one grab overhead marks at the moment. Can only body and take chest marks

That was so emotional I had to look it up thinking it might be Byron or Wordsworth. ...turns out the title was
