The Sydney Stack story tells us so much about Australia.

Stay strong Sydney and if anyone at the club is reading this, get involved, leak it to the media that you are fighting for this young mans future. He’s made mistakes but this is absurd.

I agree to a point but the fact is there have been several cases in Perth of people doing exactly the same thing and 1. Being allowed bail and 2. Not having to restart their quarantine period from Day 0. or even worse 3. Being taken to a quarantine hotel to do their 14 days.

I’m at a bit of a loss here.

Initially I had little compassion for him. Did the wrong thing and deserved a bit of a whack.

Now it seems somewhat draconian to keep him there for another 2 weeks.

System there in WA I am not familiar with, but surely this is inhumane.

But on another level altogether, i find myself asking would I give a *smile*, care so much if it was a Collingwood player for example, or just joe public?

This whole COVID thing sure does challenge your general line of thoughts on so many different levels.

His case was due to be heard today - not guilty, freedom with conditions, jail sentence - something. An end.

His legal counsel asked for the hearing to be adjourned for another two weeks. Possibly under instruction from Richmond's lawyers, I don't know. She didn't provide a reason.

His legal counsel also asked for a bail hearing to be set for Friday, which was granted.

Yeah it's disappointing that he's not free at this minute, but some posts are real eye-openers.

His legal counsel would be under his instructions, not a third party's - that would be unethical and probably illegal. Possibly they were unprepared, or he was. Good at least that he has a bail hearing coming up soon.

Whatever the case, the point is that his counsel didn't want the judge to make a decision today, for whatever reason. It's not the government or the judge saying we've changed our mind, we're keeping you in for another two weeks.

I would suggest that 99% of opinions and posts on this matter on this topic are so far away from reality it’s ridiculous. Suggest you all google back to when Sydney was given that month to train at Richmond at the start of 2019 and what Richmond had to do to to get the WA authorities to allow Stack to relocate to Victoria. Thus he had Hardwick /RFC to agree on his residency in Victoria . More to this story but leave you make your own opinions etc . Public forum after all

Sounds like a legal aid lawyer. Probably only appointed to the case in past day or so and hasn’t had a chance to do any work on it. This will be a negotiation between the defence and prosecution. Plead guilty, apologise unreservedly to the court and publicly supporting the government’s stance on COVID and the importance of quarantine etc...time served, small fine, some community service at some unspecified time in the future. Then his final chance at Richmond begins.

Don't see how they could fine him when any sentence is likely to be less than time served. Also don't understand why they could not consider bail at the same hearing given he has passed the quarantine time and that was supposedly the reason for no bail in the first place.

I don’t understand what’s going on here - why would they request he stay inside for another two weeks - sounds serious.

Lawyer: ok, Syd, we will get you out on bail today. You will be back training at Punt Rd next week.

Stack: great. But I heard Dimma is taking time off. Who is going to be running training in his absence?

Lawyer: i heard its Burge. Isnt he the fitness guy?

Stack: *smile* that, any chance you can keep me in here for another few weeks?
