Paddy Naish - where is he at?

Obviously it’s make or break this year for Paddy , if there’s a player Paddy should be following around like a little puppy it’s Short. Not to say he can become the next Short, however has a lot of the similar skills and there is going to be a spot open up down back with Houlis retirement and maybe the possibility of Baker moving up the ground , it’s one area we don’t have a big supply of reserves in.....yet

Dimma’s words were telling. He is accumulator and doesn’t fit the way we play. Maybe with the new rules he will, who knows.
I reckon if you put him in a high possession team he would do really well and he kicks the ball so well.
Put him in Melbourne, Hawthorn or Collingwood and he would be fine. He’s as good as plenty in those teams.

Spot on, Mr B. If there's a spot in our side for Paddy, it's Shorty's. But Shorty ain't vacating any time soon. Maybe Houli's, but I think we like the option of a lefty, and anyway, hard to argue the Egg's not in front given the greater opportunities he's been given.

Makes sense, and with eggs getting another year I reckon he‘s poached his spot in the order

I think Paddy can play. Just not sure he can play how we play.

Having said that with Houli approaching the end there's a spot for the taking. Let's see if he or Eggs (or someone else) can grab it.

Are his foot skills even that good ?

He’s average in many respects at the moment. Average to small in height, average leg speed, average defensively, lot of cheap possessions. And I reckon his kicking is just so so as well.

He’s nothing special at the moment. Modern day Tom Roach. Just average. In racing terms “prefer others.”

If you listen to his podcast where he interviews Emma Murray, he doesn’t believe he belongs at the level was my take. He knows he can run and has neat skills but truely doesn’t believe in himself. In Emma’s mindfulness parlance he his permanently stuck in his B Game.

Its a pity because his dad was a very good player.
Your right there is alot of Danny Roach about him.
The question is why did the Experts have him rated so highly in the draft?

There were a few people who politely thought we might be forced into paying “overs” for him and didn’t rate him as highly as others were touting. Even though I don’t really rate him, I think Buckenara may have been one of those... can’t quite remember.

A few people I know who work in NAB League think he got through in part on his surname. Definitely was a good junior and played some really high level footy at times but in reality was just a run of the mill flanker.

Buckenera fluked picking up Franklin and thinks he is the best recruiter ever.
He must've forgotten about the duds before and after the 2004 draft he picked.

interested to hear that Paddy gets a big warp for being the sort of guy you want around a footy club
and heard it from a couple of sources

exact words escape me , but unique character , in a nice way

I think it speaks to the culture that has been created , plenty of times with us and other clubs only 1st graders
can show personality and character

It’s not absolutely all over but unless circumstances arise whereby he gets called up as cover for a couple of games and suddenly just “clicks” - then this season just might be it for Paddy.
I certainly had high hopes when he arrived and even from games I saw him play in the VFL
It‘s not always meant to be for any player but I’ll keep holding out that hope in the meantime.

Being U18 AA and having Cal Twomey as a fan (who often has a preference for Vic Metro) boosted him up in a few mock drafts.

Where we ended up taking was probably about right, I remember people thinking a bid would come earlier.

Naish is currently occupying an Exit Row seat for mine.

Needs a big season with marked inmprovement to show more, hes too soft, and Dimma even said he's not a typical "Richmond Player".

He best start making a better fist of becoming one or time will run out for him..
