Jack Ross

Poor fella gets a bad wrap after being played out of form as sub and then on a wing.... a wing dimma? Seriously what is your obsession with slow wingmen all about? Inside mid for a few weeks..

I feel compelled to keep reminding people that Ross is not even 21 yet. In fact, he’s 7 months younger than RCD, who by the way, had as many disposals in the entire match as Ross did in the first half.

Harsh critics here. Writing off a kid who has shown he has what it takes.
I think the club has let him down this year. Kid has been thrown all over the shop.

Yep terrible play by Rioli. But that seems to be how he plays now. He’s a momentum killer.
Not just Sausage to blame for this. Got a feeling it's part of our system that unless there's an obvious Joe the Goose option, players are instructed to hold the ball until the forward line is crowded whereby we force spillages and repeat pressure contests until we get a shot at goal.
Oppo sides have become very good at swarming two or three players to the drop of the ball, blocking out Lynchman n Jaaack then taking an uncontested mark which allows them an easy sweep n run clearance.

He's OK, it's all great experience for him so don't mind that.

Yeah I wouldn't write him off at all smokin'.

I'd like to see some rage. Then some focus. Then anger.

I don't give a *smile* about the scrappy. We can get that right over time.

It's very rare that I think a bloke could do with a rocket but Jack Ross might do. Jack will be better with more abandon. More risk taking. More assault on the ball. That's what I'm looking for. Savagery.

Sorry Aces but I can’t see him making it. He’s tough but not strong in the contest. Gets brushed aside. He knows where to stand but doesn’t find the pill enough. He can handball but it’s often panicked and not to advantage.

An ineffective footballer for mine.

Another thing with Jack is he’s a pick in the 40s , doesn’t mean he can’t be a star , however I think it shows when your at the top it’s hard, real hard to find elite gems , Jacks got 3rd round foot soldier about him more then top 10 something special elite traits , time will tell but I think his going ok. MC has done amazing to unearth players like Bolton, Baker, Mansell, with the picks they came at recently

Yep, put him in the guts, Marlion back to the wing and CJ second ruck.
Agree. Liked the Marlion in the middle idea but seeing Isaac Smith run riot on the wing made me spew. Geelong transitioned way too easily. Closing down outlets with Marlion and KMac on the wings was one of our real strengths last year. Also bring in a second ruck and end the Marlion ruck experiment.

Ross needs to re-focus on getting the ball and dishing off quickly by hand.

We are not going to get superstars with every pick and, given salary cap pressures we cannot have 22 superstars anyway. 3rd round grunt footballer is around about where he sits right now. Sometime in the future we may find an up grade for him

Yep. The draft is a numbers game. Pure and simple. And it becomes more and more so as the years go by and drafting gets more pro. And yep we are well above the curve on late picks, which has been a huge part of our success.

How many games has he played? He's doing OK in my book. He's not the next Cotchin or Dusty though.

agree.

which is why im suggesting he's not an AFL level footballer

rather than a Bust.

A Bust has to be first round in my book

It is an uncharacteristically early call for me and I really hope im spectacularly wrong, but the glimpses I rely on to assess a footballer early on, the kind where you declare $hai and Bakes stars in game 3 at any level, they work both ways

The game turned on 2 mistakes. Ross letting ambition get in the way of ability and Broad dropping an uncontested mark. That took all our momentum away and handed them easy goals. Both players need to be accountable.

What I don't get ezy is that Ross' first few games at AFL level were very good. He played like a 100 gamer; dare I say it he was more impressive in those games than either Shai or Bakes in the first few games of their careers. But then Fyfe stood on his foot and he was out for 10-12 weeks.

He's never returned to anything like that early form.

No team has 22 Shai Bolton's.

We're the only team that has two.

(Did I just relegate Dusty? Weird how quickly perception changes)

We are facing a few weeks with our first line (and the league's best) midfield sitting out. Ross and RCD get a few weeks to learn the game.

Ross is the kinda player who improves incrementally, but linearly, into his mid 20's until you are talking about him as a Lambert style 'Most underrated player in the league'.

But he does not do that in the seconds.

He was not the cause of our woes on Friday. Those that say so are looking for a scapegoat.

He fills a role right now. And will be doing more that that after a month.

Keep him in until Cotchy is back.

I'm happy for him to get an extended run as an inside mid. We don't have too many other options anyway.

But I'd really like to see the early season 2019 Jack Ross step up.
