2nd time this year. A bit difficult time to get dropped as no VFL games to work on it.
Rioli in the past weeks has been against taller and bigger body players. He needs the space to run and be the link player. Here's the problem, when the team doesn't place sufficient pressure,, guys like Jason and Dan, can only chase up and down the field, leaving our forward line bare and full of opposition players. I really believe he has alot to give.

2 weeks a long time in footy.
Basically won us the Giants match.
(well he won it and Optimus Prime saved it by his goal line goal keeping!)
Now jettisoned.
No surprise of course. He's been well down.
Like many others thought he was improving defensively just not the other way.
Now no Vfl to play.
Tough gig.

Hardwick said earlier that his role is mentally draining and from time to time he needs to freshen up in the VFL.

He was dropped for Round 4 & 9-10 last year, Round 4 & 11 this year.
Reckon he may have been dropped in 2019 also.

There has been immense pressure placed by the Tigers in most games. Pressure acts have been up. There lies the problem. In the past we were able to grind teams with incessant pressure. Doesn't work anymore. I think the rule changes are mostly to blame. We used to pressure very smartly, with less physical effort than our opposition. To create the same pressure now is a lot harder and requires more effort. It means Rioli has to do a lot more offensively, Sure he's more of a link player. Taking a mark, going back, waiting 20 seconds and then kicking it high and long isn't ideal link playing. If you want space then VFL is your game. AFL level is just too hot these days to find lots of free space.. Will need to find other strings to his bow if he's to continue to be a permanent fixture in the Tiger team.

Particularly the kickout rules and the stand rule has made it harder to be a pressure small forward, we aren't getting those same turnover scores and repeat 50 entries from oppo kickouts as much. In playon situations we still exert good forward pressure sometimes, thinking of the Dogs and GWS games in the second half. But those rules have had a real effect on our game.

So Shocking and the AFL have introduced ridiculous new rules specifically targeted at strengths in Richmond’s game? Interesting....................

It would be a mistake to assume all rule changes are directed solely at Richmond, even though in the PRE echo chamber that would seem to be the consensus.

FWIW I think the rule changes have done little to improve the game as a spectacle and have mostly made it worse.

Not according to that smug look that Shocking always has on his face. One of the most delusional people in the world I reckon.

Glad his signing for another 2 years, however Im Starting to think that DR is at the crossroads in his career, no doubt he gener does what Dimma asks of him, however imho he should have got better at getting more ball and most importantly hit the scoreboard more, the 3 or 4 goal games just don’t seem to happen. Biggest worry for me with DR is always seems to tweak the ankle/foot , makes you wonder if his ever going to be 100% .

If it wasn’t for MJ I’d be happy to trade him ,not sure his going to get any better then where his at and carrying the name he does would ad 10 places in the draft rather then his actual output. In saying that certainly don’t mind him been on the list

Rioli being dropped during the year is as familiar as a Premiership medal around his neck.

That said it's a very taxing role he's asked to play. The SHocking new rules have made life tougher not just for Rioli but Castagna too.

I'd like to see Caddy played up forward instead.

Absolutely made it worse. I only watch the tiges now. i always liked to watch neutral games, but i'm done now. New rule changes have completely ruined it for me.
