Reckon Stewart ran 20 metres without bouncing the ball after the Baker point.
We’ve actually gotta win it a bit more before we need to rely on the execution. We get totally and utterly smashed at ground level contested and clearance situations. Guys like Guthrie, Dangerfield and the entire Geelong backline totally brained us all game long in contested situations. We just stand back using the referred pressure approach and filling space, hoping for turnovers. Doesn’t work anymore. Teams just flick it around by hand and destroy that old game plan.Yep chaos ball is dead. We need to find blokes who can hit targets consistently. We have way too many butchers in the side.

9 goals conceded from stoppages. Mauling.
Yeah I'm not sure about this. The core of our team is now getting quite old and a few have dropped off markedly. Cotchin is massively struggling. Edwards is struggling and can't get on the park. The difference between the best and worst of Jack R is a gulf; one good game in last 6. Vlastuin is having major injury issues. Grimes is doing okay but can't do it on his own and is wrong side of 30. Prestia can't stay on the park. Astbury looks gone as does Houli. Lynch can't get near it and seems to have substantial injury issues. The absolute stars and champions of this team, our flag winning heroes are past their zenith.Injuries barring, next year is our last genuine crack at it with this group I think.
Like I say. We are a disaster at clearances and contested possession. An absolute disaster. Secondly, when we do get it, our movement into and our performance inside the forward line, is simply horrendous.9 goals conceded from stoppages. Mauling.
Yep we need blokes who can get it and also use it. Our contested ball and clearance numbers are shithouse.We’ve actually gotta win it a bit more before we need to rely on the execution. Cant underestimate how much we miss Prestia.Like I say. We are a disaster at clearances and contested possession. An absolute disaster. Secondly, when we do get it, our movement into and our performance inside the forward line, is simply horrendous.
Third, our execution and skill level under these new rules is also being exposed.
That’s the 3 biggest on field issues for mine. Number of others thereafter eg injuries, age, attitude etc. but they’re top 3 for me.

I'm not convinced we can get back next year. I think we should have a firm eye on the medium term future. Hit the draft hard and get some ball winning mids who are good users and some good KP talent. We need to make sure we are competing on a regular basis; we can not drop off completely.
Geelong's injury list is pretty slim atm but they did have guns Cameron and Duncan out and Selwood hampered early then subbed out.It wasn’t pretty and some of the stuff I witnessed was inexcusable. However the reality is take the ‘equivalent’ out of any side and see how they fair. Take today for example:
* Soldo - Stanley?
* Vlastuin - Stewart
* Balta - Henderson
* Broad - Kolodjashnij
* Prestia - Guthrie
* McIntosh - Smith
* Martin - Dangerfield
And that’s being overly kind on some of these cats players!!
I think some perspective needs to come into it. In saying that, the club will need to use this year as a chance to cut back and make some calls on players. Personally I think this last month should be used to see if guys like Miller, Martyn, Cumberland etc have the ability to make the grade.
Go grab a ready made midfielder from another club and go hard at the draft and stockpile the kids so we can build a side with players like Bolton, Balta and the like.

We lose next week and I reckon will have a wing of the Epworth full by Monday arvoWhere are we going with Tom Lynch right now ? If he’s injured then park him right now because he’s the slowest, fumbly, concrete hands, useless at ground level player in the AFL at the moment. Can’t even take a chest mark without it bouncing out.
If he’s injured, I’d rather see Caddy being used as a second option. Or anybody for that matter, coz since coming back, he has been nigh on incompetent.
Just put him on ice and get him back in a better physical and mental state of mind next year.
That’s probably right Burnside. And to that end, it’s been crossing my mind that we should, or would be better off, having it all end next week rather than dragging this MASH unit on any longer.We lose next week and I reckon will have a wing of the Epworth full by Monday arvo
I was really hoping we picked Caddy to do exactly that - just tag Stewart and be a viable option at the same time. Surely Caddy against his old club would have played out of his skin.Needed Townsend in to play on Stewart
and to think we have to travel interstate (maybe twice) AGAIN!!!That’s probably right Burnside. And to that end, it’s been crossing my mind that we should, or would be better off, having it all end next week rather than dragging this MASH unit on any longer.
