Matthew Parker

Im a fan. Think he was wasted up forward and could have used him at centre clearances. Sure he missed a soda but please tell me how someone like Jack or Lynch should get a pass for doing the same?

Absolute keep for mine. Only going to get better as match fitness improves and he settles with the pace change of the AFL. Huffs quite a bit.

We're fielding a VFA team. And going pretty well. With that.

Parker? Wow. Star. Busy. Aggressive and a hunter. And will never give up.

How lucky we at RFC are to have a bloke of this level of determination driving the agenda of the club.

*Oh, but his kicks inevitably wind up in the hands of opponents!* At least he can get kick. And his drive, his hardcore is so pure he can even bring the odd Lynch into the game. (Not for long, eh?)

For where we're at. For this very moment, Matthew Parker is a godsend.

Compare Parker to Castagna and Aarts - he is twice the player of those two combined. Part of our future.

not sure why he didn't play more midfield time as he showed good signs there last week?

Should have kicked 3. As many have stated , showing more than a couple of other of our smaller forwards.

Definitely worth a spot on the list next year.

We picked him up in the mid-season draft. We can't expect a gun player with no flaws. Last year he played 2 games for Saints 7 and 6 disposals. Has never had 19 disposals before. Has never had 8 tackles. I've been quite impressed by his progress, playing so soon after joining to learn the game plan. Think he'll continue to improve, however probably line ball whether he'd make our top 22 with no injuries.
Kicking is a serious flaw
We moved Jack Higgins on due to kicking issues , only to replace him 6 months later with a worse kick , go figure

Higgins was moved on likely because he was slow. As I understand Higgins wasn't happy with the offer. Thought Parker found his position forward once moved there. 2 goals 2 behinds, a goal assist, 3 tackles inside forward 15, no turnovers. Compare that to Castagna and Aarts this year. Right now both those two go out before Parker imo.

Look not saying he was terrible today. He was better then many. Just saying moving forward if players like Parker are in our best 22 we will struggle. Parker types need to be depth. He is not much different to Townsend. Might as well have kept him
Townso couldn’t get a kick in a stampede , parker just has rough edges I’m not sure can be beveled , I forgave him flunking two chest marks week 1, he then did it again week 2 and again yesterday mixed with a horrendous set shot 15m out directly in front . I agree with comment , you play these guys as best 22 you’re destined to be a bottom club , we got 3-4 at his level right now

What offer to Higgins , he was contracted already

Sorry I meant counter-offer. You can extend or re-negotiate contracts if both parties agree. In the end, Higgins requested a trade and Tigers obliged. Tigers openly said they wanted to keep Higgins. Whether that was just towing the media line who knows but saying he was dumped by the Tigers for his kicking is just unproven innuendo.

??? is that 2019 when he played 17 games out of a possible 22 ?
Sorry meant 2020 . Played 2 games and got delisted . So not in there top 30 considering they had list of 38 and 3 rookies ?
They used 34 players in 2020

I'd play him happily instead of Aarts. George 2019 version gets the nod over both, but can George ever get back there?

Most Saints fans I know were disappointed when he was delisted.
Possible the Saints got this wrong. Not for the first time they've delisted a player that's done well elsewhere.
