Welcome to the Tigers - Connor Menadue

*smile*. He was on the fringe of easily the best side. Ergo a walk up start for half the sides in the comp. They still don't get it/us.

Troof.

I wonder do recruiters take into account "the system" a player comes from? The Tiger's have clearly the best system in the last few years. Players that break into the seniors are able to hold their own. That is a sign of excellent preparation. When you recruit a player from us, you get a little bit of that too surely? Baffling.

I felt Connor clearly wasn’t good enough to break into our 22 but still a touch surprised he didn’t get another shot somewhere like the Saints or Freo. Think what would have concerned oppo recruiters was the lack of development in his game at snr level across several seasons. Also for a quick player he didn’t use it on the big stage anywhere near enough or win enough ball.
Played some excellent VFL footy for us & no shame in being not quite good enough at AFL level.
Good luck to the kid going forward.

Maybe the fact that he couldn’t perform in our system while others could, maybe the fact we have elite development and he didn’t improve that much was enough for clubs to say ”if he can’t perform at Richmond as their 20-22 ranked player he’s not going to be able to play in an average side as the 10-12 ranked player.”

I wonder if he,ll play WAFL in 2020 in the hope he has a belter and gets another chance in 2021 with someone, Freo?

I think he can still be picked as a Ssp but it’s looking doubtful.

Understand the logic, just disagree with it. There are at least half a dozen clubs who were dumb or negligent for not taking him. They would have got at the minimum a solid citizen fringe/ scoffolding player, from the best club and system in the land, for 3 years of a rebuild. The reasons for the dumbness is is twofold IMO. 1. The rest of the footy doesn't get or refuse to acknowledge how good we are and how good our system is 2. Rebuilding clubs continue to take the hail Mary approach, the approach we explicitly and systematically ditched during our last successful rebuild.

Ce la vie. A lot of other clubs are dumb or negligent, fine by me.

Conner would smash WAFL with his pace

i agree with your second and last statements wholeheartedly. I cannot fathom the love. He is a great vfl player but squandered every opportunity at senior level. I don’t deny he is quick and has great skills but didn’t use them much. I have rewatched a lot of the early season games and without my desire to see a young Richmond player succeed there isn’t much there.

Squandered every opportunity is overstatement. He has also shown he can play well at senior level. Ultimately what can't be argued is he wasn't good enough to get a game with us. I used to rant and rave about 8 delistings not being enough and that none would get a game with manangatang. Times have changed superbly.

Yeah nah. Tigers dump him. No other team selects him. I don't think all 18 clubs are that dumb that they couldn't see Menadue deserved another chance. In my opinion you're better off trying a mature vfl (or other comp player) that hasn't had a chance at AFL level than someone who has and been on a list for 5 years averaging just 12.2 disposals a game as a running link player over 39 matches. Had his chance, didn't take it, it's a dog eat dog competition. Had more chances than many others were given.

Not up to it.

Low intensity footballer who had the raw capability to really be a weapon neat skills and genuine pace but couldnt actually find the footy and had no real urgency in his footy.

Attitude/ Mindset is what makes or breaks.

His set shot againsg port at AO was sublime.
55 out on an angle.
Reckon it put us in front.
Was it 2017? It was The Five Minute Firemans last game I think.
Had pace to burn.
