The QF final beating the Scats who'd had the wood on us for so long, the Prelim final, and then the GF was the best 2 weeks of my life.
Beating up on Geelold in that QF was bloody magnificent. Was certain we had the game to take to the Granny after that match. Halfway through the third qtr of the Granny it was pure sit back n enjoy, knew the Crowbaits had nothing left to throw at us.
Footy's been kinda weird, disrupted n distracted since then. Kinda miss the constant grumpy frustrated crankiness of not being much good for thirty odd years. Three flags n covid weirdness has kinda taken that manic edge off footy. Can't wait to get back next season watching live games n the surrounding atmosphere n intensity that rides on being at games.

I felt the same TM. Before the game, I was convinced that if we were within a goal or two at half time we'd run away with it. To be 9 points up I was sure we were good for it.

That said, I had to cheer on the inside as Mrs Quickdraw is a Crow supporter. She's almost recovered from the shock of that day. Tex Walker hasn't :D

Speaking of Tex. The Rance spoil on him early in the second quarter was, imo, the turning point of the match. From that moment on we just went to work on Adelaide and completely took them apart. Five years later they are still recovering.

2017 for me, that after party in Swan Street was something I’ll never ever forget. Best day and night ever
I went straight home.
37 years of pain it was drained out of my body in one day.
The biggest detox in living history.
I was wrecked. It took a long time to sink in that we finally one a flag.
2019 was celebrating at half time.
No one was going to beat us in 19.
And 2020 was sit back and watch this unbelievable team wear down another team in the last day of the year again.
All 3 are magic but 2020 will be my favourite

I actually said to the people I was with at halftime that we would win because when we turned up the heat the crows couldn’t go with us.
Not sure I totally believed it :)

Same.

Controversial opinion:

Eyes Wide Shut is underrated and Hey Jude overrated.

Bit hungover, can't decide whether to watch 2017 granny or EWS.

One thing this discussion reminds me is how I would love to see the club prioritise members who haven't had the chance to be at the Grand Final yet.

So when the ticket allocation comes out for each level of membership, anyone who hasn't attended gets priority in that group. It's just not the same if you are not at the game.

Do you think people who have never tried heroin

Should be given a little teaspoon and a lighter , a little foil and a needle?

while the strung out look on,scratching and sweating?

Nuh. I believe the more premierships youve witnessed, the more you are entitled to witness.

As a matter of fact,

I believe those richmond fans who havnt witnessed a flag are lazy and unmotivated and there should be a kind of intervention where the military are brought in to force them to barrack for Gold Coast Suns

Ive got an uncle has been at the G for 7 tiger flags.

My favourite premiership is the next one :p

The 2020 flag felt like a perfect fairytale when Dusty kicked his 4th goal. That single moment perfectly capped off a decade long journey with the perfect villains in the right place at the most uncertain of times.

2019 felt like the validation of an ongoing dynasty we felt like we had become, but didn't yet have anything more than the 2017 flag to show for it. This was the moment the club finally earned genuine respect. It would've been a wonderful ending if we didn't have a young, hungry list, and Rance's return to look forward to making us better in 2020.

But 2017... that one was for the people. We were still very humble and grateful just to have won our first final. The whole month felt like a celebration, which in itself meant everything as a point of contrast.

I made a comment to my father at half time that echoed Grigg's comments, but I was far too cautious to get my hopes up and dare say I think we're likely to win. Anything could happen.

Even by the Houli goal, we knew we were going to win but didn't say it out loud.

Looking back, I felt more humble in 2017, I guess because of the recent history. We expected 2013-2016 to repeat itself, whereas now we expect 2017-2020 to repeat itself.

In that light, 2021 could make us more humble again when we win the 2022 flag by 100+ points.

When Dusty re-signed I had a sense of timing, like watching Verry Elleegant coast up behind the leaders in this year's Cup before putting the field away. Everything just seemed to be falling into place for us, and our momentum became unstoppable.

I cannot separate them, they are like my children...however 2017 was the most euphoric feeling I've ever had. It had me questioning my sanity - how could winning a game feel so good - especially in comparison to what most would consider more substantial life events and experiences?

Got a bro in law was exactly the same after Colonwood won the 1990 flag against Essendrugs n we didn't even go to the game. lunch n a couple of quiet ales at his place during the first half n then shuffled across to his Colonwood neighbours for the second half and another couple of quiet ales. He had a glass of sparkling plonk to celebrate the win n was all amped up planning to go to Vic Park for a night of celebrating. No way that he'd had a big session, wouldn't have drunk half a dozen cans for the entire afternoon, but the stress n relief got to him. Within an hour of the win he'd had a chat with God on the big white telephone, collapsed in a gibbering twitching heap n was carted off to bed.
Can't think of a worse way to celebrate a flag.

A bloke I worked with who was a Pies supporter used to refer to the 1990 and 2010 GF wins as the ‘kids’.

Well, FWIW my order of faves are 17, 20, 19.

19
It isn’t to say I didn’t absolutely love 19. It was totally awesome and the best feeling to experience a GF as fan is to relax knowing it’s in the bag from a long way out. So to say it comes third is me saying just how good the others were too. 19 was unbelievably fantastic.

20
Was beating one of my least favourite teams and it proved we were the best, proved we could do it away from the G, proved we were a dynasty team, proved we could win regardless of the challenge. It just stood for so much and so many angles it stacks up as one of the greatest GF wins of all time for any team. It was also close for the whole game.

17
Well that was a day of perfection that topped off a month of perfection and the unbelievable dream finally came true. The amount of sheer joy, relief and natural high that coursed through the collective fan base was a poetic sporting masterpiece. As Hardwick said to us: “this one’s for you!” And it really was.

To oversimplify:
17 was for the fans
19 was for the players
20 was for the entire club

Heres some fun questions.
1. What quarters have you watched the most from each GF?
2. What moment in each did you think we had it?

For me,
1.
17 third.
19 second.
20 fourth

2.
17: Towner’s intercept and goal in the last (although we had it sewn up before then…I just couldn’t relax until then). But my fave goal is Lambo’s in the third which made me think ‘hang on a sec…we could win this!!!”

19: I reckon Lynches goal straight after Dusty’s in the second felt like we were about to smash them.

20: with 13 mins left and 8 points up - when Broad marked safely over Rohan from a Myers kick to the front of the goal square. Gave me massive confidence that we looked too strong for them. Of course the subsequent goals from Lynch and Dusty helped too!

ah, good times.

2019 is diminished by the ease of the GF win, but the effort to get there was extraordinary. We were struggling up to the bye and had to win every game after it to make Top 4. Then we were on the ropes in the PF. Our last 6 quarters were a demolition and made it seem so easy that it undermines the achievement of the season as a whole.

2017 was like losing your virginity to a supermodel.

2020 though was a strange season that lost all the rituals of putting on the club colours, meeting at the London, and watching the game with the tribe. It was like putting on a Netflix show at a set time so you'd just turn on the TV and endure BT. A massive achievement by the club but as an arrogant Tiger it felt to some extent that the script had already been written.

2018 was a missed opportunity. We played our best footy of the era until the final month. Should have been a quadrella of flags.
