I would've liked to see Mansell get Butler to sit on him and shut him out as I reckon hed do a better negating role on Dan than Rioli or Short.
Rioli can match Butler for speed, can beat him in the air and is a much better player all round. Not sure who you’d drop for Mansell?
I’m buying Rioli stock.
He’s become a player

Luke Parker, Sloane, Yeo types are always there but flog recruiter's don't select them because they may lack foot speed or theyre aren't reliable kicks.
Compare that to our drafting from pick 10-20 Lennon, Collier Dawkins, Higgins and Dow, Ellisx 2 both gone and you throw in Cj
That's not the next core coming though.
I rather screw up on risky pick in the 40's then constantly burn picks in the teens.
Parker is a star
Is there more than one track on this record? We get it Zips. You don't agree with the recruiters. I think you've been banging on for 2 years about our first round picks. Seriously, we heard the message, but it's not going to change the past

Did I mention Higgins instead of Liam Ryan?
Lemon instead of Cripps?

Just throwing it out there but we should seriously look at Paddy Dow.

Cotchin and Edwards could retire at seasons end. Prestia and Lambert can’t get on the park and Martin may not return. On top of that we’ve go the likes of Martyn and RCD not even close to best 25 and may be let go. Our midfield is on the verge of decimation and we need reinforcements both long term and short term.

Dow is uncontracted at seasons end and could be taken as a delisted free agent. He’s a former pick 4 in a reasonably strong draft so surely he has some talent? Would at the very least provide a mature body to take the hits while we develop Sonsie and the presumably 5-6 pure midfielders we’ll draft this year. I also hear that if a single club collects all three Dow brothers they unlock the ability to kick well. We would be two thirds of the way there.

Plan for worst case. Edwards and Cotchin gone after this year, Dusty up in the air and Prestia severely limited. Our next draft / free agency period should be mids, mids, mids.

Steele wins the battle again.

We're just not the same team without Dusty & Prestia. Some players you can cover, not them.
The problem is that Dusty is 31 this year and there is no guarantee he will ever play for us again. Prestia is 30 this year and as good as he is terribly injury prone these days.

We can not rely on them getting back to what they were. We need to start investing heavily in the next generation midfield. I’m not sure we have it at the club already. This year’s draft is so important. Or we need to give up high draft picks to get ready made young mids in. Easier said than done. We’re probably going to have to draft them.

Who are the free agent mids currently available.
I’d be scouring the lower leagues for any hard nosed mids with skill and stamina.
If george with his his limited skills and footy iq can be a 3 time premiership player anything is possible.
Get the scouts out and about. NOW!

Truth Riddles unfortunately both are on long contracts because they've been such stars. It's a dilemma but it's real.

We will have cash given Cotch, Jack & Shedda will retire. Jack and Shedda wouldnt be on too much, Jack's taken some cuts these last few years.

Cotch retiring should free up dough for a free agent play I think.
Is this Caddy's last year too?

I hope we are in deep with Taranto as a free agent.

Plus, I'd trade Daniel to GWS (once Bobby Hill leaves for Essendon) and with Daniel + a pick, see if we can grab another pure mid they've drafted over these last few years such as Tanner Bruhn. Daniel can be replaced by Baker being put back where he plays well, or Tom Brown or Mansell.

I rreally like Ash but GWS wont let him go. We dont look that attractive at the moment but GWS are vulnerable too - Leon wont be their coach next year. They still have Finn callaghan to debut, of all their young mids, they might spare one for a HF in Daniel (yes HF, not HB) + something else.

There's Noah Anderson out of GCS. Who else? My gut tells me Freo isnt a happy place but they want too much in trades. WCE list is worse than ours.

Then stick to the draft. A mid with our top 10 pick, and a mid with North's pick.

We have a massive hole in midfield. We don't have enough quality to replace Cotchin Edwards Lambert Prestia and Dusty who are all nearing the end quicker than we thought. Bolton is a genuine match winner but not a full time mid IMO, Graham is limited, and Baker is not a mid. Tough times ahead unfortunately.

Am I right in saying we never dominated the midfield since the early 80s (Lee, Flea, Wiley, Rainesy etc) even though it was 2 generations ago and a different game??
