Watched replay. He's just no good. I counted 4 times he kicked or hand-balled straight to the opposition. No-one knows what he is going to do, unsettles the team. His defensive pressure again was poor. He won't be dropped we know that. Cumberland needs to be given a go. If not for Castagna, then who?

Yet he was the supply chain to MJ's 2 goals and kicked a goal himself. This game doesn't warrant his dropping, previous game maybe yes.

Nobody in the media ever asks Dimma about Castagna. Everyone just seems to accept he'll be there again next week. It's so automatic, he'll even be named in the BYE round :)

Dimma said last week about how we have structured and unstructured players, and mentioned George as an structure player. Now it's time for someone to ask Dimma, what role specifically does George play in that structure. Because that's something that no learned Richmond supporter can understand, watching live or on TV.

Yes, he's a hard runner, and runs all day. And yes, he's a better than average mark for his height. But that's an incredibly low bar for getting a regular AFL game each week.

A beautiful moment when castagna gives it to his teammate with better skills to kick it forward.

Reckon each time George has a kick we'll see Soldo and Nank lurking for a little round the back handball to pad their stats
Problem is he’s usually run past them so he has to loop back do a few shimmy and shakes to totally confuse all involved.

Shhhh! You’ll have george’s posse after you.
He‘s there for hit fitness, speed and ability to guard ground.
And hit the wings, outmark blokes twice his size, join in running waves of attack...

GEORGE IS NOT A SMALL PRESSURE FORWARD. Stop judging him as one. Judge him as the CHF he is.

Yep and 6 turnovers. May have negated the positives of the supply chain. Definitely very little defensive pressure coming from him and some of the poor disposals are simply not AFL level.

I'd hope that the club doesn't make selection decisions one 1 game but the collective and imo Castagna has been poor overall this year and maybe a player or 2 performing a similar role but playing consistent footy at VFL level should be rewarded at almost the halfway mark of the year.

OMG. I think you might have nailed it PnB.
We win premierships 'coz Dimma sets the bar so low that everyone can achieve. Even the weird awkward pricks that no-one else can understand like Georgie.
Just runs around doin his thing n somehow it fits in with what everyone else is doin at the time. Genius that Dimma bloke.

Due to his supreme fitness, and the unspoken law that he will never ever be dropped regardless of horrendous form, I predict he will double KB's games record for us.

It was a great mark against the big lug. He only had 3 marks though, he's not really there for his marking ability.
You like your stats but ignore the importance of his role in our flag years. They've been posted before, not obscure stats but real stats. He was important. His role now is different, in part due to personnel and part due to rule changes. Is he as effective as he was in those flag years - probably not. But we've struggled to get our best side on the park.

Who is banging the door down for his spot?

Some good points.
II’d like to see Pickett get a role at HF. Better aerially, better kick, well, better all round skills and reading the play. Ferocious tackler, good pace and endurance. As a link up player he’ll hit more targets.

I'm not arguing his importance in our flag years, I specifically mentioned this year. And no I'm not basing his current form just on his stats but the real importance stats data for someone playing his role shows he is well down on his defensive stats. Thankfully MRJ has stepped up in the same role. I can specifically state FOUR times he gave the ball straight to the opponent, a couple of times he missed his target or hand-balled to their feet. These are events I saw with my own eyes.

Yes sure Castagna has some highlights in the game, every player does, but it's far and few between. Not good enough for AFL level.

Two I think deserve a chance if nothing more than for experience are Cumberland and Judson Clarke.. Stack gave a lot more defensively as a forward. There's 3 players who deserve the chance to show what they can do whilst Castagna looks for more consistent, less panicky form in the VFL. Just my opinion (as well as many from my discussions with other Tiger supporters)

Yes I like my stats but pressure acts last 3 games, MRJ 64, Castagna 23. That's damning. That used to be one of his strengths.
