I also saw Top Gun Maverick today, yes its cheesy and predictable, but its also surprisingly emotional as well as the action being incredible. Its Better than the first film.

Interceptor on Netflix. Well the online reviews are absolutely lambasting it. I will say it’s not as bad as the majority of reviews claim but by geez it’s ordinary. I read it was a low budget affair ($15m) but I still can’t see where that money went. It’s set in mainly 2 rooms.
And the SFX looked they were done on an iPhone.

Get the Gringo, 2012 Mel Gibson action flick on SBS On Demand. Tight, tense, entertaining. Recommend.

Finally saw No Time to Die, the last James Bond.

Oh boy, terrible.

Yeah it was disappointing. Even to the end, I was thinking that James was going to find some extraordinary way out of that end, but alas no they killed him off.

I think this is because they are going woke and putting in a female lead. Lets be real here, you don't have to share the lead roles in every movie. What will they do next, bring back Sister Act with a man in Whoopi Goldbergs role, or have a man as a bridesmaid.

I didn't mind the movie, but the ending was disappointing.

No, it only goes the other way. I'm all for female empowerment and strong female characters and storylines, but "That Iconic Male Character But A Woman" is already a worn-out genre and not the way to do it.

I see there's a theatre production in Melbourne currently of The Picture of Dorian Gray (But A Woman), and there was Hamlet (But A Woman) a while back. Those characters are men, written by men, about what it is to be a man. To me it weakens the feminist argument, it's an admission they can't create compelling female characters. Hamlet But A Woman is not *smile* Hamlet. Same with those action movies where a 60kg woman beats up dozens of men twice her size. Pure fantasy. And it's just saying "what if women were just like men, but with boobs". Yawn. Please. And how the *smile* is that advancing the cause of women? Show me a strong woman the way a woman is strong. Show me how she outsmarts her enemies. And if it is physically, make it believable (granted, that applies to many male action movies too).

Unexpected rant over.

Exactly and I agree totally. There are some fantastic movies out there that have a very strong female lead. They don't have to be independent though (keeping on with the James Bond theme here), but Marvel have done some very well, Gamora is an excellent character, Black Widow / Ms Marvel too. Heck, even Star Wars with Rogue 1, Jyn Erso was an excellent female lead. They don't need to replace men, they just need to show strong female leads.

If James Bond has become a character that we can't have in this PC world with his womanising etc then fine finish him off, but don't replace him with a woman. It was ok for Dr Who, but as you say James Bond is a male character, written as a male character. Create a spin off if you want a female lead and separate it from the original.

Yes, Bond is a misogynistic dinosaur and we love him for that.

Making a female Bond is kind of like letting Russia join NATO

From a TV example, its like taking the Inbetweeners, and letting the Americans make their own version of the Inbetweeners, but have them take all the crudeness out of it that made it so successful. Removing the Bond girls for example from Bond is literally like removing his balls.

Saw Elvis today, enjoyed it very much. A bit slow to start with but when it gets to the ‘68 special and onwards really picks up. Austin Butler too really shines from the ‘68 special onwards. Yeah, there’s things you can complain about this movie (all movies that try and cover decades will always do the “this happened then that happened” and skim over parts) and it’s not til late in the movie til songs are sung in entirety (a lot of songs are only played in part) but overall quite satisfying.

Bummer ending of course…who knew hey?!

How often did you see a young John Travolta in his face? :))

Hopefully the most recent 'Ghostbusters with women' debacle put an end to that.

That GB version and the Ocean 8 were pretty bad movies.
Wait until you see the next instalment in the Mad Max franchise. Mad Maxine - Furry Road.

Apparently she gets caught in post apocalyptic traffic and misses her waxing appointment. Boy does she get angry.
