I always thought that when their is a shot on the goal, the field umpire gives his view. The field umpire holds up two hands for a goal , one for a behind. The goal umpire then has the final call.

can anyone confirm this? And if so what did the field umpire call.
That was the process I was taught and upheld whilst I was an umpire many moons ago!

I thought that was the case, thanks for confirming.
it is never spoken about when they talk about goal umpire decisions.

surely they have the down the ground vision to check what the field umpire thought?

This thread needs to be binned into the internet ether for all of our collective mental health. I had finally put the ARC issue behind me but now want to hurt someone again

So the AFL can admit an umpire made an error in one game, but the ARC is infallible and would never be wrong.

"Our TV stations have over the last couple of decades developed technology that is far superior and more accurate than a mere human brain equipped with a 3-dimensional optical system. That old stuff has been around for the last few hundred million years and our stuff is much better and proven."

Now that the wound has been re-opened, I watched the footage again and still can't see any definitive evidence to overturn the goal umpire and, frankly, still think the footage points to it being a goal regardless

If the central umpire is not to sure he will put his hands behind his back and says to the goal umpire all clear, indicating that the goal umpire has the call.

The goal umpire was half a metre away from the goal post and as so had the best position of any one to make the judgment call this includes the numpties up in ARC.

They stuffed up but we just have to move on otherwise we just become salty.

The AFL played it perfectly, ignored it, took Dimma on an promo Arc tour and eventually everyone forgets it and we move on.
