2022 Draft Thread

With my playing talent seemingly now never going to be rewarded, I rounded out my draft experiences last night with my daughter's partner being picked up.

Poor bugger has been building up the nerves for about 3 months now, despite being assured of a spot somewhere. Having been on the other side of the equation a few times, you forget how stressful it is for the kids involved. And the stress is just beginning.

Yeah the Rowston pick was all a deliberate play to get Konstanty with their later pick.

i.e. Giants heavily linked to Jacob Konstanty, Swans make 'em bid early on Rowston, which takes the Giants pick they'd take Konstanty with out of the equation.

Then grab further assets for 2023 draft for pick 18 and then pick Konstanty at 20 before GWS next set of picks. Genius.
It was a very gutsy move. GWS could easily have not matched. AS Nigel Tuffnell said, there's a fine line between genius and stupidity.

Yes, that was impressive by Sydney.

Thinking about it, being the first pick of the 2nd round, GWS are unlikely to use that on a bid for Davey. Probably up to the Eagles and Dogs. And even they’re unlikely I reckon. We’d need an NGA bid between 41 and 47 to move up further I think. Bit doubtful.

48 looks about as good as it’s gonna get, maybe.
GWS were heavily linked to Jacob Konstanty, it's not beyond the realms they bid on Davey. If not Sydney will go again at 27 lolz.

Yeah but Arsendon’s picks after their 25 mean we’d just move up to 53 I think, as I mentioned a few posts back.

It’s pick 48 we wanna move up from and for that to happen we need the Giants, Dogs or Eagles to step up to the plate or an NGA bid between 41 and 47.

Beatson is the best around. We should be in his ear to replace Hartley. We need the experience with Balmey on the way out.

GWS had to match. Their whole academy system falls over if they don’t. Sydney put in a Norm Smith performance last night. They were a clear BOG

Looking at the next round and i cant get Keeler out if my head.
Is he gettable? Not at our pick.

But can we trade?
Swans showing they're happy to trade (plenty of young kids).
Bombers might be spooked to trade out if there is a Davey bid.

Amidst calls not to trade future picks and that next years draft is deeper stronger richer

a. Its fine to pick an 18yo in 2022 instead of an 18yo in 2023.
List mgt wise it doesn't break the bank

b. Next years draft may be supergood. But are we likely to get a 198cm athletic high leaping forward/ruck?
At our F2 or F3?
Nup.

c. It's the one hole we have to fill. We can wait until next November and hope someone falls our way, we can wait until 48 and pick the 5th best key forward (imo Lemmey will also be gone).
Or we can get what we want

Let's get Trading and get Keeler!

The thing is, we aren't allowed to trade our future picks.

I'd be all for it, td, but we can't trade any more of next year's picks without changing our name to Geelong.

We can't trade as we have no collateral. We can't trade future picks because we don't have a F1 and we ain't Geesook.
