Awesome to see the Blues mired in mediocrity. Just a shame we didn't out them to the sword on the scoreboard in round one when we did so in every other facet of the game.

Hey BluesBloke
I don’t watch Carlton as much as you do
My summation is that there best 6 is as good as anyone’s
Their bottom 6 are not AFL top 4 standard
Is this how you see it.

PS I had them down as certain finalists at the start of the year

The unbias zip view of the mighty blues.
**Cripps is knackered he has carried them for the last 10 yrs.
**Walsh is good but not as good as the media make him out to be. Cost them a spot in the finals when he went long when 2 players were inside 50 unmarked.
**Curnow is a star.
**McKay is there version of Vickery.
**Saad is just a headless chook. Has no idea where he is going 90% of the time.
**The small forwards are slower then me.
**Pinionett no good.
**McGovern how good is life? 700k
**Kennedy Cerra Newman Acres all good if you want win the flag in the reserves.
*Silivagni seriously he wouldn't be playing in a afl club if he was call Tony Smith.
**Voss isnt a coach

I'm actually pleasantly surprised. i thought they would push for top 4. That list is too good to miss finals. There is something culturally wrong with that club.

This has gone. You cant just throw money out there anymore.

Kernahan, Bradley, Motley and then went again in 87 with Naley. That's SA State side

A bit rough on McKay.

Bad kicking is bad football. Found this interesting because it tells us what we already know has been happening all year until the last six quarters.

According to Champion Data, Carlton has a kick rating of -2.7 per cent going inside-50 this season. It ranks No.14 in the competition and is ahead of only St Kilda (-2.8 per cent), Richmond (-3.6), North Melbourne (-3.9) and Hawthorn (-4.9).

'Kick rating' is a Champion Data tool that measures the difference between a player's expected hit rate and actual hit rate. A negative kick rate, in this instance, indicates a player not executing kicks as well as the competition average.

I wouldn't put too much stock in my opinion as I'm no different to any other bastard sharing their view, but I guess the difference is I don't claim to be an expert when most Carlton supporters do ... same for any other club I guess.

I'm not inside the club so I could be way off (and probably am), but I believe the issue goes beyond simply the bottom six players.
At the top-end, there strikes me to be a serious lack of leadership - so it becomes a case of the blind leading the blind, which I suppose makes said bottom six look worse. Those at the top escape a bit of heat because of said talent - those at the bottom end don't have that luxury to hide behind.

And so if there's no on-field leadership, what hope is there of a gameplan standing up in the heat of the match?

Even Voss back in his day used to basically parrott the directions of Leigh Matthews, once out on the field. Even those great Brisbane sides had footsoldiers or a bottom six - every premiership side does - they're just led and directed better than most.

Squads win flags - systems win flags.

It may not be the entirety of the problem when talking bottom six at Carlton, but from where I sit, it certainly seems to be a major part of the wider issue being match-day performance.

Whether its gameplan or not, the way some of their players are playing is vastly overrated. I can't believe that Brad Johnson still has Adam Saad in his rolling AA team is astounding. The only things I see him do are take kickouts and kick it long down the line (after taking a bounce and running 30m), or going for the short easy kick to control the ball. He doesn't take the game on, he doesn't run the ball out anymore. Whether its laziness or gameplan, it doesn't work and we see the vast difference that Rioli provides for us down back. Check out their heatmaps and tell me which 1 is impacting the game more, despite the lower DE%. Guess why his DE% is lower than Saads, because he isn't taking the easy option.

There are a number of apparently highly rated players just nowhere near the level they should be playing at, and I also don't think their top line players bat high enough or are in roles that don't impact enough.

For example Weitering, yes he's a very good defender, but is he any better than we had with Astbury? Not IMO. Where is their Grimes, or Rance etc.

I think they are inherently overrated (a bit like the Bombers have been for such a long time) by the media.

Brad Johnson
He couldn't pick his nose let alone an AA team.
Saad is a panic merchant. I've said that since there was a rumour we were after him. When he was leaving GC.
He runs to nowhere and then boots it to nowhere and every 4 weeks we see him take 1 down the corridor, that leaves the commentators slapping themselves over him.
The kid they got from Footscary is good. Marchbank is good but always injured. And Plowman is delist material.
Williams is slapping himself 750k for doing absolutely Sweet FA. The brought him over as a midfielder on the back of 1 game against Collingwood.
They aren't used to waiting, therefore there drafting is horrible. Dow, Obrein, Kemp & Carroll.
It's hard to change. Players like Kernahan, Silivagni, Williams, Ratten, Spalding, Bradley & Kouta.
There's no chance those names would fit under a SC cap today let alone in 95.
Unless they stop with the quick fix of signing up Williams, Cerra's, McGovern's and Saad types they won't win anything.
Curnow would look good next to Lynch.

How could I forget Cerra (well it seems Cornhole has).

Who would people prefer, Cerra or Taranto? I'd be taking Taranto every day of the week especially for the price. It was rumoured that Freo offered Cerra $3m over 4 years ($750k per year) so more than TT is on and Carlton also paid more for him.

So we gave up 14 and 23 for TT at $700k and we got a dud apparently.
Carlton gave up 8 (Amiss) and a 3rd rounder (that the Hawks got).

We have a player that wins more ball, gets more score involvements, kicks more scores.

Wheres Cornhole saying what a crap deal Carlton made with Cerra or does it only work 1 way when its negative to the Tigers.

Yep, Cerra definitely going under the radar. But Karen only has the memory span of a house fly and Cerra went to Carlton last year So he’s forgotten about that.

their last 21 games 12 losses - 8 wins 1 draw. No worthy scalp apart from the Cars in Round 2 when Geelong where still in pre season mode.

Those 8 wins include wins against WC x 2. GWS x 2, North and Hawks. They literally have not had one decent scalp in almost one year. The talk must play finals/premiership window is a joke. They will look good in glimpses and beat up bottom 6 teams.
