Gameday - Tigers V Bombers

Nank has been bloody awful for two seasons..should not be playing...sorry but he shouldnt be selected over form from previous years.....ditto jack graham,he is slow and out of positiom every game almost..he is not a wingman and not a foward
Play miller and cumberland
Have to agree re: Nank. We won our previous 2 games with an improving Miller in the side. Why drop him for Nank who honestly has gone downhill at a rate of knots? And I reckon it definitely affected Samson tonight.

Nank dropped marks directly responsible for 2 ess goals. Ffs I know he’s our captain but fmd he can be a liability sometimes

Ohh Nakas will be rushed back this week.
Not 1 person on this forum was excited by his return.
Iike I said earlier he isn't a ruckman and now he drops every 2nd mark, he is tottaly useless.
He cost us big time tonight

Despair . . . frustration , , , that's what I feel after tonight's game.

When we play well, such as the first 3 quarters against Melbourne and the game against Geelong, we put enough pressure on that the opposition can't just chip the ball around, they have less time and space with every possession and eventually cough it up or at least we get a stoppage.

But then we play like tonight. We were unable to pressure Essendon when they were passing the ball around. Essendon kept having players run from behind to create space and receive the ball. Critically, they also receive the ball while on the move.

In contrast we were like statues. Kicking to static targets, not attacking the contest, just waiting for the ball to come to us. That is always evident when we play badly.

The delivery into the forward line? Well, I just don't know what the players further up the ground are supposed to do when not one forward is moving. No-one is presenting. No-one is leading. You don't need to be particularly tall if you are 2 metres ahead of your opponent. When Richmond play badly, the forward line looks like a bunch of scarecrows, just standing around. It is so easy to block up a forward line which is static, we made it very easy for Essendon to do this. Then there are the kicks direct to an opposition player, they are unforgivable but all too common when we have a bad game.

When we play like this it looks like we don't have a game plan. Where was the run down the ground handpassing to each other and creating space? Didn't see that at all tonight.

Very disappointing game, Essendon were not particularly good but they were good enough to hang in there and grab the win at the end. We should have had the game won a lot earlier, there is no excuse for that loss, it should not have been within a kick.

I don't know what is wrong, a lack of confidence, too slow, too old, who knows. But the inconsistency and off games like tonight just kill us.

I'm kind of stunned by I could see it coming at the game, in terms of the way it finished. The bounce for Grimes that went away from him, the bounce when Rioli was streaming towards the 50 (he should have used the players outside of him), the OOTF by Mansell to keep the door ajar, but I do have to say, for probably the smartest footballer I have seen play the game, that kick off the ground by Jack was the dumbest thing I've ever seen him do. Pick it up, get tackled, force the stoppage. Its not rocket science in the last minute of the game, the 1 thing that you cannot do is kick the ball out into wide open spaces. He may not have known Ridley was there, but it was a dumb low percentage play.

Whilst we weren't great, I wasn't impressed with the Bombers and the thing I thought coming away from the game is, regardless of where we are right now, we will win another premiership before they do. Whilst they may have outcoached is tonight, Brad Scott is teaching them a gameplan that will not win finals and certainly not a GF. It was a scared gameplan to try and scrag a close one (it worked) but its hardly coaching for a flag. Play 1 back, have your wingers flood back and then move the ball so slowly forward, that you are only left with bombing the ball long, we intercepted at will from their entries, but the problem was, that they slowed the game down so much, when they turned it over, there was then no speed available to open the game up. We did try, especially players like Rioli, Shai and Bakes but it just wasn't working.

I'll give the Bombers 1 thing, they are fit. Playing players like Durham, Martin etc, it enables them to 2 way run and get back and clog space, but geez its a long way from a premiership winning gameplan.

Boring, dour and a very crap expression of our game.

The only thing that’s relevant there is that we got out coached. Otherwise, whether you, me or anyone else thinks their game plan is boring, when or if they’ll win a premiership yadda yadda …just doesn’t matter. None of us are Essendon fans. What does matter, as a Richmond fan, is that their game plan was good enough to beat us tonight and we didn’t have any answers. And that’s incredibly disappointing given the overall talent they have v us.

Note: I could have been hearing things but I think Watson and co said tonight was a bit of a departure from their normal style anyway.

Out of all our losses in 2023, that equals the GC loss. The GC loss was lack of effort. Tonight was lack of skill & intelligence

No one blows a game and a season up like the RFC.

Bongers loss.

Swans loss.

Doggies loss

Suns loss

Blues draw

All should have been wins.

The moment that Lynch went down our season went with him.
Yep.
Also if you look over the last 6-7 yrs when we lose a close game we go on a run of losses.
Port will slap us, they have Bulters playing like Wayne Johnson, Rosie and Ice bath
We might not get the ball out of the centre

The other thing was Hardwicks constant praise of Nank. Don’t get me wrong Nank has been a warrior for us. But the game now has changed and so have we. Ryan and Miller gave us a point of difference.

Quite frankly Nank does not deserve his place in the team right now. If he wasn't captain he would be in the VFL. At least he should be. Never seen a ruckman drop so many easy marks.

With all this drilled chaos our blokes do not know how to settle the game down to take the momentum out of the opposition when they get a run on.

K Mac takes his full 30 seconds then kicks straight to their spare defenders instead of looking backwards and swirtching out the other side.

3 times he couldve done it 3 times he directly turned it straight over.

Wouldve chewed up 90 seconds.

The 90 seconds it took for us to lose the game.

so Disappointed to see him play like he did tonight.
