I tuned into SEN last night before going to bed, just to listen to the Blues fans, it was music to my ears. I slept a contented sleep, they slept like babies........crying all night.

Geez, how can one club simultaneously draft badly, trade poorly, have issues with their coach yet still be underachieving?

Carlton.

Their all conquering dynasty from rounds 1-3 last year certainly got their hopes and expectations up. They’re wondering why it’s gone downhill so quickly since then

Carlton have a good list, they have two of the better key forwards going around and some gun players like Cripps, Walsh and Weitering
They really shouldn't be struggling like they are but I do like it :devilish:

Whether this year or next, I can absolutely see them knifing Voss to grab Hardwick, as they did to Ratten for Malthouse.

In Voss's presser last night, he was asked what he's going to do about McKays goal kicking, he replied "we'll throw our arms around him".
Vossy, can I suggest you "throw" haymakers at him :p

Carlton have a top 4 list but a bottom 4 coach, choosing Crazy Vossy was nuts, the state he left Brisbane in should have been a red light. From my observations he's a try hard maverick, most players have gone backwards & most lack continuity. Last week he made Hewett sub, started Walsh on the bench, rested Pittonet and then got smashed in the clearances. He's the opposite of Midas, he's a serial butcher. When I think back to the Lions I recall the treatment of Bradshaw in order to get Fevola, that ripped the fabric out of the side. Vossy is a poor man manager & a very average match day coach.

But isn't this typical Carlton? Their top 6 is as good as anyones (throw Docherty into the you stated) but the rest of their list is pretty poor.

Most premiership teams also have most of their stars entering their prime at the same time. Its the whole point of the draft system, you gte a number of high draft picks and they age and mature together.

The age range of their best players is all over the place. When you mix that with far too big a group of average players underneath that top 6 and you end up with a situation that Carlton find themselves in.

They have a quality top 6, but the list in total is very imbalanced both in terms of quality and age.

and further to that Vossy is a poor judge of talent, he let Crisp, Yeo & Docherty go for peanuts.

Tell us what you really think Bullus :ROFLMAO:

His time at the Lions was a disaster for sure and the recruitment of Fevola one of the more bizarre recruiting moves we have seen. It is one of the reasons I am hesitant about any recycled coach and I am struggling to think of one who went on to win a flag. We can go way back to Jeans at Hawthorn and Barassi at North but both were premiership coaches already.

I just get the feeling we are going to go for a first time senior coach. I have nothing to go on in making that statement but for some reason I think it fits the way our club thinks now.

First time coaches have a honeymoon period whereas recycled ones come with high expectations and that can lead to poor longer term decisions. Dimma enjoyed a honeymoon period with us and we saw a gradual and steady improvement. It was really just the period of 2015-16 when we lost our 3rd elimination final in a row and then had a very poor season that he got under pressure. That's what we need I believe.

I think Malthouse is the most recent to win flags at different clubs. There’s also Matthews, but they’d also won flags at their first club. The only one I can think of who coached more than one club and went on to win one with their next club is Blight at Adelaide.
What plenty said would happen is coming to pass at Carlton, the salary cap squeeze, because they overpaid for players that weren’t worth it.

and Polec o_O:cool:
Polec was ok at Port, these outside types need a decent support cast, in saying that he was another who left due to a lack of match time. Docherty was tearing it up in the reserves week after week but was routinely ignored by the selectors, if you are prepared to spend a first round pick on a player then you have to ensure they are getting gametime. The danger Vossy now faces is losing key players, whether that be a player like Walsh or one of their key position All Australians. On paper most of the parts are in place, there's a good blend of inside & outside mids, they have the bookends in place and they have some good youngsters coming through like Hollands & Binns. It's a decent list lacking focus and a decent gameplan.

I think Dimma's smart enough not to go anywhere near the Cartoon job.

List is a mess IMO. Fart too wide a range of ages in their key players group, far too much reliance on 3 players to kick them goals.

I think he would jump at going to Port, they've built a really nice list, it’ balanced in the right age brackets. They realised their mistake in having a vanilla midfield and have recruited for that. JHF, Butters and Rozee are as good a trio of young mids that any team has.

……….. Dimma took on the tigers in rabble mode at its most difunctional peak in 2010……………:peepwall
