Changes vs Fremantle

Unbelievably our side is on average 3 years 4 months older PER player than Freo. We are playing only 1 of our 17 youngest players on the list. Freo have around 6 or 7. Not really sure where we're heading.
We believe we're still a finals chance that's we're the club has got it wrong should be about development and exposure to the kids get games into them.

Graham still picked. Mini not cut out for the job if he can't make the tough but obvious calls.

I’d have dropped JG too but the club would have their own internal markers. None of us are privy to what Graham’s role actually was last week despite seemingly underperforming.

Oldie can’t you see he is now playing Castagna’s role

Dimma gave Mini the secret sauce before he faaarked off

In this case don’t think it could have to do with internal markers. He was too slow last week and on the wide open spaces out West that isn’t going to change.

Yes but you take jack and Trent out the age and games drop big time.

Currently 18 players to 7 under 100 games.

Those two don't make much difference in that respect.

The gap is huge. Be very interesting how we play it once finals are off the agenda.

But what would we do? (Not going to happen btw haha)

Cotch n Jack are obviously in their final year. They'll be treated with respect and get some games and some rest.
I'm surprised we gave Grimes another year so we will play him.
We'll play Nank.
We'll play anyone we might trade.
So who dont we play?

Yes. Mini still has the same list that Dimma had (excluding the midseason draftees who won't play seniors this year) so it's not surprising he's still fielding much the same team, particularly when finals are still mathematically possible.

Its more than that Ant.
We've been playing the kids, cant play them all at once, focus on the now and future yada yada

But if we are completely shot this year what happens?
We dont drop Nank and Grimes to play them in the ressies.
We dont drop Broad and Flossy to give Brown and Biggie the backline.
We might give a debut to Banks and Bauer but only 1 or 2 games.
All of the above are playing in 24 so we will field our best side and aim for it to gel.
We dont drop Jack and Cotch completely so they disappear with the dew. Not classy

Yeah agree TD. Young players will still learn something from playing alongside Jack/Cotch this year, even though they are well past their best.

I still think Jack is a chance to go round for one more year as the third tall.

I’d like to see Banks get a go soon , would be a tad frustrating to be continually told your very close to getting in , though not an ideal way to debut , wouldn’t mind him been sub this week, great experience getting away with the team and going into a hostile environment.

Obviously Hugo will most likely be sub. I’ll fair dinkum spew up if Miller got a gig in front of Biggy

Great question.
Trent most likely to retire immediately. Jack might as well although it wouldn’t surprise if he decides not. Ditto Tarrant.

It will test Mini and the match committee but imo, really better for our chances in 24 if, following Trent’s 300th, opportunities at AFL level for these three are wound back altogether.

Jack Graham is tradeable as are Mansell, McIntosh, Nankervis, Ralphsmith and Ross. We might best enhance their prospects by playing them as much as possible but only in games that we go in as favourites!

As for those we are clearly keeping, Grimes and Vlastuin to be managed very conservatively and depending on vfl form, as many games as possible for Banks, Bauer, Brown, Miller, Nuyen, Young and our two mid season recruits, and when fit for Campbell, Green and Soldo.

Gibcus, Lynch and Smith to focus on 24.

one thing we havent done recently is rest players. Jack played the 1st 3, then needed a rest for rd 4, but has played every game since.
Cotch is about to play his 5th full game in a row. Dusty missed rd3 thru injury, but has played every game since.
Grimes, Pickett, KMac have all played every game.
I expect they will all play Cotch's 300th (if fit), but that group should be missing regular games in the back half of the year, regardless of results.

Injuries to key players have played a part, but when Jack was rested in rd4 the word from the club was that we had a plan and werent going to deviate.
