Gameday - Tigers V Swans

If only Mini took over the helm earlier in the season. We’d be entrenched in the top 6.

The midfield stood up when it really counted. Both Taranto and Hopper were solid, the latter will get better as he gets more continuity. Imagine where we'd be without them.

Scrappy game, even before the heavens opened up.

Just a lot more intent and pressure in the second half and we looked so much better.

I really do wonder about MRJ, at one stage I saw him run straight to the marking pack as the ball came in, that's the last place the ball is going, it is going to rebound of the marking pack. He was nowhere near it as it fell to ground. Someone needs to teach him where to go, to commit to a particular position.

Ross was very good tonight, deserves to keep his place for a lot more games. His improvement really is incremental but he is getting better. Sometimes I don't know what to make of him, can play quite well but needs to step up just a bit more.

Bauer going down so early was tragic, I presume he'll now be out for a few weeks at least. Terrible situation, hopefully he can come back and get in the firsts again.

Good to get the win, need to keep winning, but still can't see us doing much in September if we make finals.

I imagine people will back off hammering Jack Graham for a while. Two valuable goals with one sealing the game
Imagine if you want. He was left alone in F50 and an opptunity a 7 year professional should have. NEGATED his underground miss in the first.

Spot on. It’s ironic that we’ve rectified clearances & contested ball, but have a poor forward line to go into.

Jack is either sore, sick or getting too old (not convinced it’s the latter to be honest, think it’s the former), Miller flies one handed too often and the rest of the forwards are makeshift (midfielders or defenders pinch hitting - Dusty looks best pushing up to midfield & working back, Bolton the same). Bauer showed in his only play that he’ll be a player - wanted to get involved, did get involved & used the ball. Rehab him & he goes straight back in.

Just can’t see what else we can do to fix it now with what we have. Clear what needs to be fixed before next year.

Anyway, play contested ball, attritional game for the rest of the year as it suits what we have. Then re-set for 2024.

One last thing - thought Cotchin was good again. He’s in his element in the middle of winter - game has come back to him.

JR needs a break a looong break into retirement
He just can’t run or jump
Not Jack's fault. He's been a champion, of course. The club has made no effort to implement a succession plan over the last few, even two. years. Ignored JVR or even Buller in the MSD to keep taking flankers and SFs to add to the stockpile.

Jack has busted his ars for the team and should have had just a senior statesman role in '23 i.e. occasional games. Did we think Lynch was invulnerable?
So now we are only have one KPF ... with a busted ars. [JR is most likely carrying an injury].

Bauer has potential but not the body for a KPF. Not until a few more years in the gym at least.

At quarter time, I'm sat up in the cold thinking tonight I was going to freeze my arse off watching us get smashed. We really should have been 6 or 7 goals down at half time, again our defence was good and held their score back, but the ease they transitioned from 1 end of the ground in that 1st quarter was embarassing.

Not sure if it was mini or something else but things changed in the 2nd, we started to win he footy (I think I saw we were -45 for disposals in the first quarter), and we slowly got on top.

We were well worth our win in the end, a good performance in a very scrappy game, but 1 that keeps the season alive.

How good were Shai and Dusty in the 2nd half, gold. Bolton must love those blue boots.

Bauer is a sad story. Looked very composed for the 2 touches he had, his 1st he could have blazed away forward but we had no-one forward so was composed to hold it up, and then got back into the play to deliver that ball to Dion. A couple of really good touches, and a massive shame that he pinged the hamstring, but he showed there right away he has the composure and skills for AFL footy so hopefully the hammy isn't too bad.

As others have said, moving Vlastuin forward was a masterstroke, their plan was clearly to double team, block and scrag Jack all night (and they got away with it all night) and then have 1 roll in behind the contest to clean up and launch a socring chain. Manning that man up slowed their ball movement up massively.

Young was iffy to start with on Buddy, but was very good after quarter time, and got the choccies I thought on Buddy, that run down tackle for HTB showed Buddy is done IMO, no speed and Tylar got him cold.

Reckon we looked better in the midfield and once we slowed their ball movement down, we dominated. Good win and season is alive and kicking.

4 umpires couldn't see that? Bollocks, they decided not to pay any notice.

Absolute joke, surely there has to be someone out there who can see the bleedingly obvious.

How were the commentators? Ooh look he marked with one hand, gee I wonder why, the commentators seemed to miss the massive hold on Vlastuin. We know he has no head because that has been a fair target a few times, now apparently Vlastuin has no arm either because you can just grab his arm when he is try to contest a mark and its all fine, no problem.

So frustrating.

MRJ has just got to find some polish. He is always going to be a high impact, low possession type player, so when he gets a chance he needs to kick goals. Had 3 big chances tonight and fluffed them all really - fortunately Marlion mopped one of them up!

Longmire plays one of the most defensive brands of football ever seen. He gets nunbers behind the ball and tries to win on the slingshot. We never lose iumportant games to them because that strategy doesn't work against the best teams. It's why he can get teams to finals but rarely converts. They simply lack any attacking flair. They need to dump him and try something new.
