Alex Rance

I concur. Enough water under the bridge now. I can't recall him saying much negative about our club, and he hasn't pulled a Mal Michael, despite folks fears.
He left before his time I think, and will always be remembered fondly by myself. Those suicidal sprints to incept or spoil like his body could never fatigue. Halcyon days.

I don't understand the negativity about Rance, he's been gone for 4 years now, surely he entitled to work at & where he wants to.
He was offered a job that suits him, good luck to him I say.
Great player, good soul but just a bit religiously afflicted.

It’s a real shame that Rance only played in one Premiership. He was the rock that we built the triple Premiership back line around.

Spot on - footy is so fickle (often cruel) at times
Not right or wrong - just life - but blokes like Jack G and Marlion started collecting flags almost as soon as they started
Rancey certainly deserved multiple flags

He’s 34 now despite impressions he would t cut it back at afl level , way too long out of it , good luck to him, I got no hang ups

I reckon he'd cut it AFL level, especially since there's a lot of dud defenders, he could match up ok on a few as a third tall type. But, he'd be no where near as good as he was, and it would tarnish his legacy.
i know it doesn't really need to be said on PRE, but this guy was an out and out champ. Unfairly maligned by opposition supporters and the industry (consider how SOS and Scarlett are viewed in comparison) . Rance is amongst the all time greats for me.
I wouldn’t want to see him come back and perform like a journeyman.

He completely screwed the kids from the school he was running over. I know one of them and it's a disgrace he's managed to just walk away. Yes, he can play footy. But he's shown himself to be a pretty ordinary bloke.
Have been informed the same as this.
These kids could have enrolled in similar, but more reputable programs for less cost for the parents but chose the academy Rance ran.

His attitude towards folding it was disappointing. Hope the year 11 kids who haven’t finished their schooling and have had the academy close on them get into a reputable program like SEDA etc. to complete their schooling.

Who would you choose for 2024 season in the back pocket?
A not match fit Rance or a 2023 form Grimes?

Agree, though it isnt really sensible to compare different eras, i reckon the only thing stopping Rance from being in the conversation for the best FB of all time is his relative short career.

champion player but seems skittish in his commitments post footy. part time here, culture and leadership there. whatever that means.

would seem an ideal coach if he actually put his mind to it

I agree in some respects that he could get to a std that was good enough relative to other defenders , there’s just no precedent in sport for comebacks being successful

Reckon that mirrors his footy career perfectly! Crap start but what a finish! Just needs to commit to a profession to make a career and a success out of it!
Unfortunately for Rancey...his commitments to his Religion...causes an issue for him, that he has trouble resolving!
Can one preach the Bible and knock on front doors whilst being a fit skateboard rider able to play footy?!?
(If anybody can do it, Rancey can!)

They didn't actually play on each other much when Rance was in his prime. I reckon DTLD took Tom most of the time.
If they went one on one I'd back Lynch in to make Rancey's job pretty damn hard. Too strong in the air.
