Welcome Tyler Sonsie

26 disposals, 8 marks, cramping in last quarter (like a few others), looks like a reasonable work ethic to me. plus he'll be better for the run.
People love ripping on his work ethic for unwarranted reasons, I thought he was good without the ball. Hes not going to be a full on pressure player like MJ or Mansell etc. He’s a creative ball winner with great skills, and a decent enough defensive game

Sounds like we may have picked up a good one in McAuliffe. Now I want to see what Sonsie can offer us in the firsts. For his first game of the season post suspension, according to reports, he is looking good.

Sonsie was ok, I was there today. But made a few crucial errors and a couple of times didn’t go as hard as he could have. Not so MaCauliffe .
Let’s just say on what I saw today MaCauliffe has him by a fair way

Kmac2 was the clear standout with his 31 disposals and his ball use was so good. The sonz played well, used the ball well more often than not but did make some silly errors and some kicks not to advantage.
Another thing I agree with you on was that sonz doesn't always go as hard in the contest. Lost a few one-on-ones because of this. If he can work on his contested possessions he'll be a jet. Other than that he had a very good game and was in my top 3 best on ground.

*smile* if I can understand the constant drooling over Sonzarelli by some posters. Total outside figjam player who hates contact or even implied pressure. Absolute lurker who might be a star if there was only a dozen players a side n acres of space to play in but disappears when there's physical congestion.

I watched him. Has class but I do worry that he's not quick enough or fierce enough at the ball to make the next step.
Be interesting to see next time he has a snr game if those fears are allayed.

I can actually see now why Yze has him in a high half forward role as opposed to the midfield.

On the other hand, he has a body of work at VFL level better than any of our other young players. 7 games of 30+ disposals, 21 games of 20+ disposals and regularly hits the scoreboard across 29 games to date.

Sonsie has his issues but is undeniably talented.

This. He actually also has a very good goal sense. The more he is kicking it inside 50 the better.

Some players grow into their careers.
For the first time the Sonz is really fit and we all know he is very talented. His influence on games and his physicality will evolve imo.
He is just that sort of player, slow burn and building.
He needs to play afl very soon imo.

On his one game yesterday Kane McAuliffe might nearly have gone past Sonsie's entire body of work. Only position I could possibly foresee for the Sonz at AFL level is as a forward flank. Build up a hard running tank n use his vision and distribution skills out of traffic to set up forward thrusts. Perhaps he could somehow elevate from there to a Cryan at Myers type maybe.

Like all up and coming kids he has a few weaknesses, but with his skill and kicking get him in that team when you got players like Mansell playing.

Sonz was playing as the outside player at stoppages and MacAuliffe as the inside player. Many times yesterday it was MacA to Sonz Who then distributed it precisely (mostly).

yeah a nice 1-2 punch.

Sonz can play footy. He's no Kane McCaulliffe,

but I reckon he gets his name on a locker.

im inclined to call him Cinderella his slippers are so beautiful

I'd prefer to see both Sonz and Brown, held back.

Both have shown terrific improvement but there are still some doubts about their hardness at the ball and willingness to go in and get it when possession is in dispute.
No team can afford players who are only great on the outside, as these two look to be.
Both need to be comfortable going in when opponents are looming, and the best place for them to develop that mindset, at this point, is the VFL.
