Like many of you, I also like the idea of trying to get Pick 3 (Callaghan, Erasmus, Ward) whilst keeping 7 (Sonsie, Draper, Hobbs).
IMO, we definitely need 2 x high quality midfielders b/c we dont have them with Dow, RCD and the other young boys. No one's fault, they were late first round picks and I dont see them in that top echelon of player. Although, we did pick well with Shai Bolton in the 20s.
I'm useless at working the pick numbers around so wouldnt have a clue how they do it without giving away too much.
But this year with our own 7 and the extra 2nds and 3rds affords us an opportunity to try.
However, we arent the only team with a good hand to get the Bulldogs Pick 17. Or take advantage of the Pies situation.
Other clubs can do good deals too (Geelong's 30/32/34 even before their Clarke pick from Freo could trump our 28/40/44), Brisbane's 18 plus late picks, even Melb's 33/42 and whatever else they pick up from trading Melksam etc. may be better than our hand. Maybe Pick 16 from Port is an option- they may want some 2nd and 3rd rounders for trades?
Dont think our Chol compo will be a 3rd rounder - cant see the AFL doing us any favours.
Think there's a lot to play out with trading too and those last minute shock deals - reckon Essendon would love to get rid of Shiel, wouldnt put it past Neale to still leave Brisbane, and Gold Coast still may need to dump 1-2 players given they have to pick up 3 and have a fully contracted list. St KIlda may need picks for their academy boys but dont have them. Could they split 9?
I also have a gut feel Hawthorn will be very active - can see Mitchell and a few others traded.
