2024 Draft Thread

I thought it was really classy having Chris Toce's son type in the first draft pick. A great way to honour him. It was amazing he was still working on the draft so close to the end.
Wouldn't it be amazing if in 25 years young Harry toce is in charge of Richmond recruitment and the first player he picks is a young man named Dustin lalor son of sam

Essendon
West Coast and apprantly even Adelaide are looking at pick 28.
We could be singing again tonight

We bent North over, but even with their F1 we had to give back our F2, we don't have anymore F2's, so I can't see West Coast or Adelaides F1's being on the table. Adelaide don't have anything else to trade but their F2, could be a possibility, but that would be it, and I don't see that working.

If its West Coast, they might really like someone (Shanahan, Whitlock or Moraes you'd think), they could offer 30 and their F2. I'd do that trade if it was the best left over and then continue to slide back, but would prefer dealing with Saints or Essendon. Once we slide back a few, reckon we get additional offers perhaps from Sydney or Gellong.

I'd happily grab another 2 or 3 picks for next year and slide back to 40-45. I'd then be targeting Boxshall, Hayes or Unwin.

Did J Whitlock look disappointed or happy that his brother was drafted ahead of him last night ? He looked a bit upset to me ?
Definitely upset. That's what I like about him more than his brother. Just seems to have a bit more hunger and mongrel in addition to being a better mark.

We already took Lefau, Gray, Bauer, Fawcett in recent drafts.

Now two more. Add Lynch and there aint enough room to play them at AFL/VFL level.

We don't just need more mids, we moreso need run and class. Especially forward of the ball where we're also worst in the league.

Anyway, we've zigged and the rest have zagged. We'll look like geniuses if it ever returns to a talls forwards league (unlikely) or be anchored with a slow static team when everyone else is fast.
You need to be able to get the ball and win it first to deliver it to the pace we haven't been doing that.

Your banking on 2 rookies Lefau and Bauer both a not KF either and Fawcett is unknown

Not sure we're your getting sides going with medium talls now lions had 2 giant and swans biggest problem is there tall forwards.

He looked gutted that he wouldn't be able to laud it over his brother for the rest of his life. He gets up hugs him and then puts his hands to his head when it dawns on him

Why draft so many speculative talls, Gray, Bauer, Fawcett and Lefau, then draft less speculative talls with high picks when midfielders were still available?
Allen may go home or not, if they do then we get paid well again in 3 years to let them go home.

Hindsight we should be drafting X factor with speed or maybe mature ruckmen with later picks and especially in mid season draft.

Otherwise we end up with an out of balance clogged list.
IMO

Lefau and Bauer aren't that tall, and Bauer will likely play back.
Faull and Armstrong are more proven than any of those you have listed, although I do like all of our players and reckon Fawcett could have a break out year.
Trainor is also a Grimes replacement, only taller.

I'd like to see us grab Dodson tonight, as Nank can't keep going around much longer.

I am not sure if i am being unrealistic, but i would hope to trade the 1st pick for maybe Power F1 and their next pick- about 34, then trade that to the Cats for their F1 and their next pick (or no next pick. both those teams would be hoping for top 4 at least so they would be giving away about pick 20. If there are players they want they might bite.
I would almost prefer this than say the Bombers F1.
Not sure of the details but there are clubs with multiple picks they won’t use so if we can trade our pick 28 for that club’s F1 and get a couple of picks in the 40s and 50s that would be ideal I reckon.
We could even trade down twice and get a couple of F2s which will be valuable in trade week next year.

I can't see us taking any more KP players, possibly a ruck, but not even sure we will do that.

Last season we started with 13 KPP's (including rucks - including the 2 Cat B's). We ended with 15 (as we added Blight and Gray and we currently have 15 on the list.

Any more, and we create a big list imbalance. Almost certain the last 2 on our list with either be mids or smalls.
I raise you a Mate and OHB with his fugly peroxided head.

Yeah they are part of my 15. I suspect we will cut a number of talls at the end of next year. Big years coming up for Miller, Young, Gray and Blight IMO. Either perform, or we have others.

I like Faull. Was my favourite tall fonward. But to take him over Berry because you hear someone else likes Faull is faulty drafting. Especially after putting in a bid for Kako the same spot - demonstrated our need for a high class small forward.
That's the easiest positive to fill

Hence why we got quality talls.

Let me ask you this, as far as our tall stocks go, do you think we are in better or worse shape than we were on Tuesday?

IMO, Miller won't make it, Young I like, but is meh and Gray and Blight are no certainties. Perhaps the club feels this way too, and that is why we grabbed high-quality kids in Faull (Bill and Ted) and LaLoyd Mk II.

I know I would much prefer to think of having Armstrong starting at FF and Faull at CHF than Kosi and Lefau, respectively and respectfully.

Oh we are much better off for sure. I'm happy with the Faull and Armstrong picks. My comments around talls have more been about what we do with our last 2 list spots. I don't think from a list balance perspective that we can have any more talls on the list this year.

Ok, so Essendon have 37 tonight. Can we swap 28 for a future 1 and 37?

Then Geelong have 42. Maybe swap 37 for 42 and a future 2nd?

Maybe WC will give us a future 2nd and 44 for 42?

Then the Kangas have 52. Maybe swap them 44 and get our future 2nd back? Or at least a future 3rd.

Then we can swap with Freo. Pick 52 for 60 and a future third.

Probably still get a good player at 60.

Maybe we should start earlier, like target the Bulldogs pick 29?

RFC could just troll the competition all night long just for the lols.

I'm surprised no ones talking about Sam Davidson. the kid's an elite runner and ball user with good speed, this teams screaming out for an injection of speed... it's a no brainer. I reckon we trade out 28 for f1 and a late 30's - 40's pick for him.

play him on the wing whilst he develops his midfield game.
Maybe rookie tomorrow
