Coronavirus

Sounds like Andrews wants to change the hotel quarantine system anyway with this being the UK variant.
He probably should get advice from the other states. They haven't had as many leaks from quarantine in comparison to Dan's world best system. Maybe we should get the world's 2nd best or 4th best or 10th best system.

FFS...we had 3500 passengers go through T4 on Tuesday and hundreds more for other reasons. The fear is this Brunetti worker was highly infectious. High viral load. How that person was still working is a complete mystery. If they were a close contact of a Holiday Inn worker (who were supposed to have been contacted 6 days or so ago) then it could only have been a breach by the worker or a critical failure by contact tracers. Can only be one or the other, surely ?

This has potential to be a nationwide spread.

And what the *** is Slo Mo doing on the vaccine front ? Couldn't ask the USA or Europe for a measly few thousand Pfizer jabs from the tens of millions they've produced to protect our quarantine staff ? Who are the only real or major source that we have in this country for a potential outbreak ? Or even use the AZ vaccine ? If we'd had our quarantine staff around the country vaccinated by now we probably wouldn't be having this conversation today. Not that he'd be able to coz he hasn't even got the TGA to approve the AZ vaccine which is being bottled up as we speak ! Honestly...

They already knew the UK strain was coming you would have thought they would have beefed things up beforehand not after the horse has bolted.

I suspect he may have had discussions but what he wants to change is a federal issue not a VIC issue. He's just mentioned that he's going to propose to national cabinet that we cease bringing people home except on compassionate grounds. He can only make a suggestion, thats Scomos decision not Andrews so maybe he's already raised this and was shot down by the PM.

Need to cancel all international arrivals for a reasonable period; maybe a month. Hopefully by then our world's best quarantine system can be improved by competent people who have some idea what they are doing.

Dan needs help. He's incapable of managing this. The Federal government needs to step in, they need to take responsibility for the security of the nation.

He can stop accepting people into Victoria if he wants. He did that in the second (or maybe you're right and he need Scomo's imprimatur to do so?).

In any case; he stopped 120 surfers coming. Tennis players and their entourage are fine though.........................

Wiemar mentioned this, she worked very early in the morning. The isolation guidance was given Tuesday morning, she was working from 4.45am. It sounds like her partner tested positive on Thursday from a Wednesday test (or it might have been Wednesday from a Tuesday test).

Agree although not sure the Feds are capable of a better job. But something needs to change for sure.

Maybe Dan should call Gladys :mhihi

Mask wearing outdoors is *smile* *smile*. Should only be necessary if you can not physically distance in a crowd.

If you are walking in your neighbourhood and don't go within metres of people it is completely unnecessary.

Not if some fat, sweaty, staggering haruuuumpfer comes jogging past you or some other haruuumpfer on a bike. They're everywhere.

You think that there is a hotel quarantine system that should be 100% successful? If so, then you will be sorely disappointed. There will be outbreaks, its how we deal with them which determines how good the system is.

At this stage we have dealt with outbreaks well. Lets just see how this one goes. Bear in mind that we haven't had any of these snap lockdowns since our lockdown ended what 4 months ago? Almost every other state has had snap lockdowns in that same period.
You seem to forget that our Premier referred our system as Gold Standard.

Unlucky Victoria then ?

When he did that before, he probably had a lot more clout being as we were in the middle of a major lockdown. He doesn't have that backing him now (thankfully).

I agree the surfers vs tennis does seem in the face of it to be a contradiction. Ok for tennis but not for surfers.

Gold standard or not, there is not 1 system out there with 100% failsafe. Think of it like a sieve, you capture the vast majority with the sieve, and then you use contact tracing and other options (like short lockdowns) to suppress the rest of it. If you think there should be a system with a 100% failsafe then like I say, you will be sorely disappointed.

Would've been easier to cop if the announcement was made on a Sunday instead of right before the *smile* weekend.
I thought having the first 2 days of lockdown as a good thing. Minimises the loss of work and school days.

Calling bs on that Chumpley. Your snoring alone would keep dozens of nearby families awake at night. (You using a nebuliser now ?)
*smile* off. Your poor missus told me that she thought there was an earthquake at your joint the other night. Turns out it was just you snoring and farting!
