Coronavirus

Bret Walker felt he had all he needed to complete the NSW inquiry into Ruby Princess, the report into which was handed down today. Blame was placed squarely with NSW Health.

NSW Health made 'serious mistakes' with Ruby Princess, inquiry says

Also:

"One of Mr Walker's harshest criticisms was also directed at the federal government.
Mr Walker said many people were of "great assistance" during the inquiry, including the NSW Police Commissioner, but said the "one fly in the ointment ... is the stance of the Commonwealth".

"A summons to a Commonwealth officer to attend and give evidence about the grant of pratique for the Ruby Princess was met with steps towards proceedings in the High Court of Australia," the report says.
"Quite how this met the Prime Minister’s early assurance of full co-operation with the commission escapes me.""

Disgraceful. Imagine if Andrews did the same with the Hotel Quarantine investigation? Some here would be screaming blue murder.

Yeah and remember earlier in the week everyone was claiming Andrews was a liar because he said that ADF personnel were not on the table for hotel quarantine, yet the feds say it was. They can't be both correct. The above around the Ruby Princess paints a different view of the feds that maybe they were not as giving as they claim to have been.

Would they be screaming blue murder more or less than the Labor fan bois here that scream blue murder on everything LNP?

The Lib fan bois definitely scream louder especially as they have major newspapers backing them Tim.
That are easily matched by the left leaning taxpayer funded mediums, twitter and a plethora of "independent" outlets like the conversation, newdaily, guardian etc.

But I digress...

My view is that we should call it all out. Anything that is not showing the honesty we require then call it out. There is no defence for the Feds not cooperating with that inquiry so let’s be loud in our condemnation.
let’s be equally as loud if any party does a similar thing or put politics ahead of what is good for the community and the response right now.
Maximum honesty and cooperation and minimum politics from all, that’s what I want.
That’s what we should be screaming blue murder about if we don’t get it. Andrews, Morrison or anyone else I don’t care.

I love the word "plethora", just FYI

Anyway, so although the security company/quarantine thing was a complete fiasco it turned out that the infection came from the concierge/front desk staff, so those wanting to hang Andrews had it all wrong anyway.

Nobody was to blame. It's the Essendon defence, and just as laughable. How can the night clerk possibly be "patient zero"? Where did he get it from? Just because he was the first to test positive doesn't mean any of the guards didn't have it first.

This is Andrews trying to bluff his way out of a catastrophe and only a blind disciple could perceive it otherwise.

Where did the story about the security guards stem from initially Lee out of interest?

Active case down by 2, 7875, recoveries 8121, oustripping active cases, first time in a long time.
283 new cases, 4 deaths, 279 recoveries.

No idea who the publicly funded left-wing media is, certainly not the ABC, they are just not left wing, unless of course you consider Murdoch and his right wing cheer squad to be somewhere near the centre.

Lots of blame to go around, hardly surprising given the situation. In terms of actual policy not implemented on the run in a crisis, but implemented in normal times, the aged care policies of the Howard government have to be one of the worst examples of ideologically driven free market fundamentalism, well free market in name because the neo-libs don't mind a nice big subsidy when it is heading their way.

Enough of that.

Not a bad result today. We are hopefully on a plateau on the way down. Still a roller coaster. The 7 day trailing average lags so is still going down, but the 5 day rolling average shows we are plateauing at the moment. We'll see where it goes from here:

COVID19 7 day ave 15082020.jpg

Promising signs, but, as we have seen before, it takes time to see the impact of things like the Stage 4 restrictions with this virus. Just a function of the asymptomatic cases and the length of time people seem to be contagious.

It appears the lock down measures have the numbers heading the right way. However I wouldn’t be popping champagne corks yet. The milder weather has seen people in their hundreds out socialising “exercising “ today. Photos of people attending farmers’ markets and sitting on groups on the grass with little physical distancing in evidence. What the *smile* is wrong with these idiots?? We’re finally seeing some progress and reward for our sacrifice in lock down but the first sign of decent weather and the selfish *smile* are out in force. *smile* unbelievable. We’ll still be in lockdown at Christmas with the way people are acting.

And why are farmers’ markets allowed in a stage 4 lockdown? Supermarkets have everything required. Bloody hell.

Stay the *smile* at home people!!

An unreleased report by something called the Doherty Institute reputedly genetically links all second wave cases to hotel security.

If it's unreleased how can it be attributed to a security guard as fact? I don't think that report 'reputedly' says that at all does it? More so speculation?
I think the story stemmed from this interview.

It may well be the case but until we see the results of that report it's just guesswork.

Andrews cited it during the week and said it concluded that the outbreak "largely" stemmed from hotel security. "Largely" was reported by media in quotes, implying that the report actually says "wholly".
