Congratulations Dave Astbury on a great career and thank you for what you gave us. Injuries got him in the end. Was an absolute pillar of the defence in the 2017-2021 era - especially in containing monster forwards. Allowed Rance, Grimes etc to also do their thing. Will be a huge loss.

Reckon we now need to consider a Daniel Talia for a couple of years as a stop gap until young, tall and competent defenders can be found and developed.
Funny you mention that. Was thinking the same thing this morning re Talia before Dave's announcement.

Dave. What a beauty he's been.

Just heard, what a player he was.

Rarely beaten in finals.

Took on the big guys, did the number on em. In the 3 x finals vs Geelong, he gave Hawkins a bath.

Josh Jenkins still hasn’t been found post 2017

Whenever I heard Dave interviewed it was never about him..... came across as such a quality bloke with a genuine love for his teammates and the club.

Thanks for helping bring joy back to the lives of us Richmond tragics!

A great warrior for the club. It's such a shame he doesn't get to play his farewell game in front of the Tiger army.

Such a class act to call time on his terms. We're not only going to miss his dependability down back on the monster forwards but his overall presence around the club as a leader. Congratulations on a fantastic career.

Class act & underrated on field throughout his career. Unlucky not to walk away with an AA guernsey

A pillar in defense. Will be sorely missed. All the best

154 games, like others I reckon it felt like more.

Injuries certainly contributed to the number of games, but he managed to get past that and played a crucial role. It is all too easy to underestimate the value of a player like Astbury, the stars only shine when the players around them give them the stage to shine on.

What can you say? Triple Premiership player - that's one hell of a legacy.

Well done Dave, will always be a legend for the Tiger Army.

Is this the start of retirements of our premiership players? You would think so. Many will retire over the next few years as we move to the next era.

Also worth adding that Astbury started the greatest piece of play in RFC history and the beginning of our dynasty. Around 33sec left in 3rd quarter of 2017 QF vs Geelong.

Great Tiger and can only support everything already said

Any idea what his plans are from here - such as lower league footy?
Whatever - thanks for the memories Dave

Congratulations Dave on a great career. His story is one of persistence, from starting up forward to all of those injuries to then becoming a premiership ruckman. You’ll be missed.

Brilliant defender ,one of the Tigers best .
He was so underestimated ,if he played in the 80-90's he would be considered one of the great full backs of all time.

He will be missed .
Hope he stays on in a coaching role,he has the nous .
