Footy media , love’m or hate’ m ?

The media is garbage. Growing up in the late 1960s and early 1970s, 6 Games on a Saturday afternoon late edition of the Herald and Sporting Globe would have a proper summary of the games. None of the current print journos are fit to wipe the mud from Alf Browns shoes.
The overwhelming majority of Radio and Tv commentators like the sound of their own voice. KB is the best caller by a country mile just calls the game.
The special commentators drive me crazy so much irrelevant drivel. They need to be sent to school and shown Richie Benaud videos.

Channel 7 have a particular theme - during the footy the commentators dont like to talk about the footy.
Its the size of the crowd (BT), its the hairstyles (BT), its the jumper numbers (Baz), its the injured player going into the rooms while the game continues.

It gives 7 a chance to talk about the footy on all their shows during the week, but ignore the bl00dy thing during the game!

For all the accolades Bruce gets he's by far the worst. He's basically calling to a narrative & barracks for it to happen. The standard of commentary is abysmal across the board.

The thing that anoys about Bruce these days (or perhaps he always did it) is that he finishes every sentence with a question.

I listened to Mar McClure today for about 10 full minutes. He makes BT look like the Richie Benaud of footy.

Amazing - searched everywhere i could and not one press release or story of how Ntn Melb have 6 of their first 7 games at home...... Can just imagine the uproar if Tigers had two or three games in a row at the G. The way the media rabbit on about some teams is crazy but leave some other such as these idiots alone.

They'd love desperately for us all to think that the season is business as usual & generally spinning it as such but it's nowhere near usual.
May as well throw out every comparable stat ever recorded with a shorter season & shorter quarters, not to mention states in lock down, strict health protocols & all that comes with being in the middle of a pandemic.

It's a bit of a farce really. If supporters are feeling it then can guarantee the players are.

Yep, I reckon this is right. The players are definitely struggling for motivation, none more so than members of the 2019 premiership team who won the Grand Final in a canter.

We haven't even had a chance to unfurl the flag.

I would investigate how journalism is taught nowadays as its become the pits. Footy journos are the absolute pits. There is no more storytelling, no more true investigative journalism, its all sensationalism and click bait *smile*.

A big problem is there’s no jobs for journalists. Nobody is paying for quality content.
That why sensationalism & controversy has become so prevalent in the absence of facts & positive, interesting stories. We are all worse off because of it.

There is no quality journalism & the 1 or 2 which aren't bad are now behind a paywall, it's all ex players in a "boys Club" in the comm box & the same blokes on the footy shows. it's boring to listen to & watch.

Jumped in the car yesterday to go to work, Dwayne was having yet more rule change discussions. Turned it over to MMM who were playing some ripping tunes. That's what i think of footy media atm.

Similar , I generally listen to Lyon and Watson, actually like thier show and usually listen to Wheatley for anywhere between 1second and an hour, depending who’s his guests. Was listening yesterday and all these negative , whinging callers , had me changing over to MMM and pretty much did the same today. There is not a single footy show I watch now, I’ve pretty much only seen the Mighty Tiges games , I use to enjoy a few of the shows ,such as on the couch, however now all they seem to be is gossip bull *smile* , off field gutter crap and next to No actual footy talk. I didn’t hear any radio about how good the young Saints were against us, just criticising of us. I’ll say it again how are we suppose to grow when Robbo is the games main journalist

I don’t mind Gil, but FFS how woeful is SHocking, then the biggest headline grabbers in the competition are McGuire, Koch and Kennett , where the hell does that leave us.
