As much as many will hate to hear it after today Gil's legacy is set in gold.

He has steered the game through it's biggest ever challenge and emerged with the most powerful financial position Australian Sport has ever seen.

Most people in the industry would be happy to build a statue of him today.
Yeah, take a poll on what the grassroots supporter think of
the state of the game,
the absurd rule changes that don’t go through the Rules of The Game Committee.
The secrecy, the manipulation, the uneven heavy handedness, the fixture,
The farcical umpiring department, for a multi $billion industry, they should be professionals and independent the afl
the appointments of “ boys club members“ ie umpires boss, football operation boss. What qualifications?
the silencing of anyone not in lockstep with the afl viewpoint and agendas
The secrecy around appointments that don’t follow any measure of governance or integrity.
Staffing and salaries of the bloated afl bureaucracy
Secret herbs and spices FA compensation
Lack of support for state leagues and grassroots football
The use of half arsed technology
The total lack of transparency to its major stakeholders ie clubs and members
etc etc

Too bad that too many can only see the $’s without the foresight to actually see what is happening to the game. From grassroots level upwards.

They built a statue of Baal. That didn’t last long.
Money isn’t the be all. Unless you’re a coke snortin num nut who gels their hair, wears porcelain caps and sticks his own finger up his own arse for enjoyment.

Me? I’ll enjoy a cuppa tea and a couple of scotch finger biscuits.

Yep, that's why someone from within AFL headquarters will get the CEO gig, they don't anyone from outside getting their hands on the books.

The other thing I forgot to mention above is Gil probably saved the future of Tasmanian football with this deal as well. That's pretty special.
The Tasmanian football that has fallen away greatly under his watch? Maybe if he did a better job the last 10 years it wouldn't need 'saving' now.

I see Gil's legacy as 3 premierships to Richmond.

What a great CEO.

Thanks Gil!
Hoe do we say it, in spite of him , not because of him.
Imagine if he used the time for good and not for evil.
He has failed on so many fronts it's not funny or palpable to suggest his tenure deserves recognition of grandeur. Our game is worthy of more.
Transparency and honesty is what is required from our next custodian.

Yeah, take a poll on what the grassroots supporter think of

The thing is there is a lot in there that is opinion and other people who would hold opposing views. There's some valid criticisms as well but that's the nature of running a major sporting competition.

Yr a wind up merchant TBR ...

Not a wind-up at all. This result is huge for all the people in the industry who lost jobs, took pay cuts and have been on a knife edge since covid struck. Not to mention all the AFLW players and staff who now have the opportunity to be paid as professionals.
More money for umpires, grassroots projects, Auskick, just about anything in the game you can name. It's a magnificent result.

You mean he did his job?

Yes, incredibly well.

Gil's a very happy boy at the moment. Like the last media deal, his bonus is tied to the media rights deal.
