let's hope our boy Mabi opens up that pathway.
Absolutely, kids gunna need a couple of years to put some meat on his bones n get some experience playing against grown men. Will be fantastic if Gach n Mab can push through the door that Majak has opened n a bunch of young men from the African nations can develop into the AFL pathways over the years.

Males don't stop growing until they are 21-22, so he should still shoot up a bit more over the next few years.

a bit more if he grows an 'Afro'

Chol has some amazing scope if you ask me, don't think being an undersized ruckman will hurt him too much, his leap will make up for that. I'd normally expect a guy his size to have an awkward kicking action but that is not the case, he moves amazingly well for a big fella. Sky's the limit if he works hard.

As usual we are making out a raw rookie is going to be our saviour. How about waiting to see how he adapts to an AFL way of life and improves on his potential?
Mid way through the coming season will be a good indication if he has the talent, skills and will to succeed.

Don't think anyone's doing that but if we're talking drafting and specifically the rookie draft, then I think Chol is the perfect type to target. Frank has just about come full circle when it comes to ruckmen, he started recruiting guys like Andrew Browne, a dour trier but a really poor athlete, then came the quick fix in Stephenson, a marginally better version of Browne. We now have our first truly athletic ruckman who has some decent skills to go with the running and jumping ability, this to me is all about upside and deserves positive recognition. He may go the way of Daw or he may prove to be an inspired pick. Either way I'm not too fussed because this is all about process and I think we've finally found the right formula.

I really think that Chol would be a great CHB with the ability to pinch hit in the ruck with another 15kgs on his frame

Love to see him develop into the ultimate swingman foward/Defence/Ruck

Remember Adam Goodes in his younger days? Similar kind of size, but one of the only blokes I can remember seeing in my lifetime that could literally play ANY position on the field. But mainly CHF/CFB/Ruck in his earlier years. Wasn't a particularly early draft pick either, so don't think anyone would have tipped he'd have the impact he eventually had, when he was drafted.

I'd suspect though turk. If Cholly makes it, this would be the more likely kind of role. Quite a different kind of player to the other Sudanese lad, Gach Nyuon, picked up by Essendon, whom looks like a genuine specialist ruck.

I have no doubt Chol will put on the size required and end up a similar kind of build to Majak Daw. But it will take time. A very long term project before we'll see any return.

Couldn't agree more. We took two projects in Chol & Moore but both have solid cases for why we should invest in them. We took a safer bet in Marcon who even if he plays VFL all year makes the VFL side better and offers protection for the youth. And Marcon has the skill set to step up and help the AFL side in areas we lack i.e contested ball & clearances. It's smart and has a plan. I haven't been Francis Jackson's biggest fan but his last two years drafting and use of the rookie list is vastly improved. This years draft is such a crap shoot that it's hard to be critical because multiple players outside the top 10 will bob up and make a impact. I think someone like Nick O'Kearney could end up a top player from this draft and he was taken via the rookie draft. But we had a plan and you can see the logic. That's not something that has always been the case.

Back on Chol, I'm I crazy Bully or do I see some Justin Westhoff type role for him in the future? Not sure he'll ever have the bulk for KP or ruck but he's skillset to cover the ground and float in front of the pack will be his biggest asset. We don't need to teach him what to do with the ball or dispose of it cause he has that. It's figuring out athletically how he can impact.

Majak is a monster, huge man. I don't know how the Sudanese boys develop, but it would be a massive transformation for Chol from his current frame. We can only hope.

From memory, Majak was a very similar kind of build as a teenager as Cholly.

No we're not.

Just saying he looks promising and a good rookie pick.

If Frank went the full circle isn't back to where he started?

Very much looking forward to watching the VFL team next year. Should be a very quick team.

Semantics aside, I'd like to think of it as evolution, Browne being the hunched primate and Chol being the modern day Adonis.

If he rucks he will be more a Patrick Ryder type, if I remember correctly, Ryder was also very lean in his draft year and actually grew a couple of centimetres after the combine. Chol's greatest asset is his marking, this could be used in a key position or could be used like a McEvoy who has based his whole game around dropping back and taking intercept marks. I don't mind the Westhoff comparison but I think Chol's pace would better utilised on the ball, he ran an elite repeat sprint time, this aspect of his game is very much on par with Naitanui.

As for the mass, I wouldn't worry too much, I recall Max Gawn in his draft year and swore he would never put on the weight needed, he's now one hell of a unit. If you look at the photos I posted, you will already see he's put on some extra muscle from 12 months ago, this is a good sign and he will no doubt fill out once he's endured a couple of preseasons. If we are fortunate enough to get another 2-3 centimetres out of him then there will be no doubts about his ability to ruck full time. Having looked at the numbers, he's still trailing Nyuon by a few centimetres when it comes to vertical leap but this could be potentially bridged with another growth spurt. At this point in time Gach is clearly the better tap ruckman but that can change given the right circumstances.

The most successful ruck set up we've seen lately has been the Naitanui/Cox partnership, I believe we should be striving for that and I believe Chol is the right type to fulfil half of the bargain.

If he manages to etch out 50 or so games then he's a very good rookie pick.
