I'll be donating mine but I can totally understand those who want or need a refund. Some, I am sure, have paid a lot of money for family members and extras such as reserved seats .
Paid plenty . Both myself and my wife have lost our jobs . We have 4 x 3121 memberships . My big gripe is this . I have suspended the monthly payment with the club . They completely understand. Issue is they pay for the reserved seat and function component of the membership. Happy for the club to take a portion of the membership, no issues there just like a normal basic membership but dammed if I am giving money to the MCC for seats we cannot use for the year , that’s crap !!

CC payments should have been suspended already. If the local gym can do it, so should the footy club.
It should be up to individuals to decide what they want to do with their money.
I'm sure the club will be working frantically on this but they need to get on the front foot.

Totally agree
Don’t get me started re Ticketek refunds and away games we already purchased. That’s another issue

Everyone will be in a different position , from my point of view I pay $300 a year for my RFC membership I wont be asking for that money back. I have been a 25 year member and happy to make that as my donation for the year.

I also pay $1000 a year for my AFL membership for me and my kids , if we can not go to a game and watch a game live for the season I will ask one of 2 things

  • happy for the AFL to keep the money but that would be pro rata into my 2021 membership
  • Or I will ask for a refund for the 2020 season
Agree the afl membership we want something back. Not Richmond

This from the club this afternoon. I love Benny but TBH this email reads like a delay tactic.
The club is not delivering on it's product currently (through no fault of their own) & many member's circumstances have also changed.
There is currently no end in sight to this virus & the season extremely unlikely to continue.
Some will choose to retain their memberships or donate to the club & others due to changing circumstances will cancel.
The club needs to provide that option right now.

Dear Members,
Richmond Football Club has had to work exceptionally hard to ensure its survival in the past, and we again find ourselves in a position of having to fight for our future.

Thanks to the magnificent support of our members, the Club had built a position of financial strength that underpinned the recent on-field success we have all enjoyed.

But this current public health crisis, and the indefinite suspension of the 2020 AFL season and early conclusion of the AFLW season, threatens to erode much of that hard work. The impact of the current crisis on the game is enormous; the impact on your Club is no less significant. We are facing a very real challenge.

Australians are suffering and staff at our Club are not immune. Many wonderful staff members were this week stood down across our entire business while others are working on reduced hours. We feel for all of them, as each has made a significant contribution to this Club. This week has been incredibly hard for so many.

It goes without saying that retention of our membership revenues will be critical to this Club’s capacity to fight through this crisis. Our membership is our greatest strength and we need you now more than ever.

We have been amazed by the response of so many members that have pledged to stand firm with us during this time. Indeed, we have even had some members make donations to the Club beyond their membership to assist us in navigating through this period.

We built this Club together and we will keep it strong together.

Equally, we understand some members, due to a change in circumstances, have many questions regarding their membership. We will continue to service our members as best we can and continue to work diligently through a range of options for you as the year unfolds. Many other questions members may have, are answered on our Frequently Asked Questions page on the Club website.

The one question we can’t answer right now, is if, and when, we will have a season. That is something that can only play out in the fullness of time. It remains the AFL’s intention to play the remaining 144 games plus finals of the AFL Premiership season this year and, while the season is on hold until 30th May, we will continue to review the situation.

At this stage we are unable to determine what the impact will be on club memberships, however we are considering a range of options for our members and will communicate further when the position becomes clearer.

So where does this leave the business right now?

Those staff remaining are committed to driving the business through these difficult times – we owe that to our members and supporters, corporate partners, coterie groups and our colleagues that won’t be with us during the coming weeks. We want them back working alongside us to ensure this Club thrives into the future and remains one our members are proud to call theirs.

So, we are open for business. Our membership team is available to take your calls, our on-line retail business remains open and our digital team will deliver our fans content that keeps them updated and engaged. Our community team continues its work with the Indigenous and Islamic communities.

Our strategy to diversify revenue streams independent of football has never been more important. The Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership continues to educate its students and our Aligned Leisure business will build for the future despite the current interruption in its services.

We will keep moving forward to keep your Club as strong as we possibly can.

Finally, the most important priority right now is your health and wellbeing. Please take on board the health advice being provided to keep yourselves – and the broader community – as healthy as possible during this difficult period.

We look forward to the day we can once again sit together and support the mighty Tigers.

I suspect RFC are only going to be able to answer questions regarding membership refunds when there is a common position from all clubs.

The AFL would still be maintaining that the season can re-start after May and would also be insisting that the position on club memberships be the same across all clubs.

That said, they need to hurry up and make some decisions. There are a lot of people now without income they were expecting, and they need, at the very least, to stop having funds taken from their bank accounts. I suspect those with monthly deductions are more likely to be those with less money to start with and likely more precarious employment. I would immediately email all members with monthly deductions to ask if they can continue the payments, I would also be offering that, if they restart their membership in 2021 (assuming the crisis is over) then 2020 would still count as a year of membership. Some people can no longer afford this and need relief.

*smile* the other clubs. do we really want to wait around for Essendon, or the suns to retain member and viability?

tigers need to contact members ASAP with a message like

'dont worry, we'll win the flag in 2021, and if you stick with us, dusty will attend your birthday party this year and boulle get a special tigers jumper with a sparkly gold sash, embroidered with the message ' I stuck by the tigers through the pandemic of '20' ' or something.'

people are going broke and stir crazy real quick. won't take much to keep 'em or lose em

dont *smile* about tiges

What will they do with 3 game memberships and pet memberships. A few clubs will be worried about this.

Footy is under huge threat , make no bones about it
Huge issues with Virgin and other sponsors
Don’t forget our other business ventures Aligned Leisure etc . Huge problems
No gate receipts this year will sink a few clubs . Current club model will change . AFL are relying on Government to bail them out if they cannot secure loan from one of the major banks
They ll secure finance , they’ve collateral in marvel stadium worth hundreds of millions for security , that’s the saviour and the difference between afl and nrl

Yes requested a hold

There would be many members who would be in similar situations of financial pressure given recent events.
The club is right to ask members to stay strong & loyal but it's a two way street. The club also needs to look after loyal members who've also been affected finacially by the virus.
The hold should not be an option that people have to hunt for. Not every member will feel comfortable contacting the club. In fact few will given the emotional ties.
To be honest I don't like that this has not been at least mentioned by the club as an option.
Can't help but feel that after this PR job by Gale that the club will now sit tight for 2 months until the season is announced as cancelled.
Then an option will be offered either as a percentage refund or as a credit for next years membership.
This really does come across as a business decision rather than what is right. I'm disappointed.

Sure some will say we owe the club plenty for what they've given us the past few years but we've all also been here for the 30 odd before that.
Just do what's right Richmond.

just wondering if anyone who selected "donate money to benefit the club" has lost their job or had their salary cut this week and now needs to recoup some money?
I was put off work this week.
I voted donate
