Jack Ross

Maybe, i wont be staking my well deserved reputation on Ross making it, but I do think he had been played in different positions to round out his game, rather than trying to turn him in a HBF or wing. and the foot injury undoubtedly affected his game.
Agreed. Whose to say him playing different roles wont benefit him and the team in the long run.

It’s good to have an inside mid that get the ball going your way but even better to have an inside mid who can also rotate out to the wing or hbf when needed. Adds flexibility to our set ups and makes it easier to adjust to injuries in game.

Flexibility certainly came in handy in the 2020 GF when Macca was able to switch from the wing to the hbf to cover Vlaustin.

I reckon a few of the Ross haters are going to be regularly disappointed at selection time this year.
He might not be quite "best 22", but i reckon he is going to play a lot of AFL footy.

it looks like the concerted effort to get him playing outside and running the last couple of years has paid off and we now have a strong mid with the running power to get from contest to contest, and get involved in transition.
he probably wont win the brownlow, but he may well prove to be a good depth, or rotation, mid.

"Ross haters"? "Disappointed at selection time" should he play a lot of footy?
Doubt there are many (any?) Ross haters; more like Ross realists.
We all want Ross to do well but an undersized mid, lacking aerobically, with no left foot and a right foot that kicks highballs is going to struggle in the modern game.
If he plays, that means we once again will be struggling with injuries to our preferred mids like Graham and Lambert, but if he does get selected, I'll be wishing him well.

He’s 187cm, 85kg which is bigger that Cotchin, Graham, Lambert, Prestia. Hardly undersized. Lacking aerobically? His latest summer report said his running has improved such that he is winning some of the trial. I’ll give you the kicking so I guess that’s one out of three.

yeah, happy to be wrong, but ...

hope he doesn't get senior games. if he does, we're struggling.

Thought he was ok on the weekend. Pretty ordinary start but worked into the game.
Same. He was ok. Not anything special but solid enough. I’m not sure he really impacts a game that much, even with a reasonable amount of possessions. Maybe that’ll come in time. Who knows. I thought Dow was more influential with fewer possessions. Some of his give off handballs under big pressure were very productive.

Looks to have definitely improved his endurance, was covering the ground very well against the Cats.

With Graham and Lambert having very interrupted pre-seasons Ross will play the first couple of games, a good opportunity for him.

I cant see Dow getting high possession numbers but his hurt factor will be greater than someone like Ross who might get is 25 times in a game. Different type of players but both crucial to our long term plans.

Good signs, right now with a healthy list is still an emergency. Prestia - Lambert and Graham (when fit), Cotch Dusty just wont get dropped. With Graham and Lambert unlikely for round 1 then he may play v the Blues. Interesting to see how he goes v the Hawks this weekend (if selected)

Thought his game was quite good overall. His work rate was massive, and a few errors aside used the ball well.
Still think the coaches want him and RCD in the middle together more often than not.

Do we think they’re competing for the same spot? Inside mid?
If so, I’m in full agreement.
Dow for mine. I see a bit of Edwards in him. And he can go forward too

You will find in time as well that he will cover the ground as well as Ross now does if not better. He’s not quick, but he can get from contest to contest like Ross is learning to, and has put work into. Some NAB League people tell me his engine is ok. Still to get to AFL level for sure, but capable of doing so.

Yeah I think he is just about a lock for round one given the injuries to Lambert and Graham.
Agreed he's probably going to get the job of doing the donkey work through the middle to cover for Lambo and Fridge, and that's a big job, in recent seasons its a major key role in the machine taken on by 4 of our key senior mids in Cotchin, Prestia, Lambo and Fridge.

He will likely have Hugo assisting him in this role if both Fridge and Kane miss.

He's not best 25 when we have a full fit squad for mine, but he'll get the chances early to stake as claim with Lambert and Graham up against it.

Hopefully he takes it and runs with it as the side is in need of younger players to level up.

Ross must make a bigger impact this season end of.

He will get an early look in with the question marks over Graham and Lambert especially.

If he doesn't level up this season I think he will be usurped in the order by others including some of the new arrivals.

Critical season for Jack Ross at the RFC.

But he's not alone there's a few on that list with him.

For some reason, I really want Ross to have a stellar season and be a contributing part of the mix in the long march to September.
He's possibly never going to be a star, but I still hold hope that he does have a solid role to play.
I would think he knows this is a make or break year if he is to stay at RFC
I wish him the best of luck and form this year. I reckon he won't leave anything in the tank or die wondering.
