Wing is a midfield position. All of the 6 are capable of playing there and doing well.
McIntosh is very slow with ballin hand. He has had plenty of opportunity but almost always slows movement of the ball. His game is not what the coaches are trying to teach and I’d bet London to a brick that he has been told that more than once.
as DA points out wing is a specialised position.

I didn’t mean to suggest that the position isn’t important. Just that McIntosh has had plenty of opportunities and has demonstrated that he doesn’t play it well.
He spends far too much time with ball in hand looking around thinking what to do next.
Balme was hardly going to suggest that a contracted player should look elsewhere.

Wing is a highly specialised role and was highlighted in an article recently by Fly as one of the most complex positions to play in the modern game. The player needs absolute elite endurance so cross out a few on your list straight away like Balta, Bolton, Pickett and RCD. You can improve endurance but can never turn average into elite.
They also need to have both an inside and outside game and need to balance the two constantly. Caddy is a strange selection in this role. RFC may be trying to redefine the perammeters. Ellis, Lambert, McKintosh, Turner elite runners. Not sure about Naish

You can theorise all you like but Caddy has proved that's not correct. One thing about footy and gaining an advantage, you don't focus on the stereo-types. This is one of the reasons the Tigers have been so successful. One thing history has proven is that if your disposal skills and decision-making isn't up to scratch it is going to be difficult to maintain a successful spot in the team. This is also why I think, as the team has improved, that the likes of Butler and Kmac have drifted towards the 20+ range in the squad rankings over time.

I think plenty of midfielders would play a wing role better than many 'genuine' wingmen. They are generally more superior players which is why they're in the midfield, not on the wing. It would be stupid to have Bontempelli on a wing. I think Mitch is just jacked he missed out because of a superior player.

The way Caddy changed his game - again! - was terrific.
As we know he'd had stints as the "big bodied midfielder" and then a goal scoring mid-sized forward and I never expected him to have the speed or endurance to adapt to the wing. But he did it beautifully.
And while I've always been a great fan of KMac - Caddy did much better. His ability to call for and mark the ball kicked out of our backline or even take the intercept mark when it was being rebounded out of our forward line was better than KMac could ever really do. KMac had different strengths.
It was an inspired decision to try and retrain Caddy for the wing - and credit to the MC and Caddy himself for putting in the work to get the job done.

You cant compare Caddy to McIntosh.
Its like comparing Jurica to lynch or
Cotchin to Clinton king or
Dusty to Robbie Powell.

McIntosh isnt any good.
Who's freo's worse player? Collier?

Why do you denigrate players?
Richmond is a positive place, yet we have people like you just heaping it on. Where is the joy?

Broad and Caddy are two players who were found to be deficient in terms of first team football and both took on the chin and re-invented themselves with the help of our coaching team and that resulted in both being firmly in our best 22 and double premiers to boot. KMac has similar problems and if he is half the man I hope he is, will address his deficiencies in the close season with our coaches and come back better and stronger in 2020.

the Suns would be mad not to grab him. A tough, premiership, marathon runner.

Or, he remains a really good depth role player for us.

Funny, when I went to the PR superstore on the Thursday before the GF,

there was a bargain bin full of Bellis and Kmac merch
