Offcourse there is conflict of interest a former coach on the decision making you kidding me ? just like his role at the afl and his brother coaches a team same scenario as Hocking was changing rules etc and now at the cats blind freddy can see it's conflict if interest wouldn't see that in any sport corrupt.
So now North want priority access to Tasi players as well as extra list spots and priority picks. Where does this end... Gold Coast have access to NT talent on top of extra list spots and priority picks in the last couple of years. Syd have their fully equiped academy which covers young player talent from who knows where. GWS have access to a very large academy that seems to cover the breath of most the country when they can take players from Vic if they ever even sniffed some air in NSW etc etc. So much for an even and uncompromised draft and competition. As somebody stated here recently the Tigers never had priority picks when the were terrible....

Perfect solution. They probably wont get a team of their own, then they will get told, "wait, it is ok, any young talent we produce can go play for North." That should get all the good kids playing Aussie Rules.
As always the AFL will do something half arsed to try to fix a problem. Ongoing assistance should go to those clubs that have systemic issues that make success hard- at present that is the Suns and Giants. No one wants to play there, and wont until they have the history and culture that can only come from success.
If North need ongoing systemic assistance because they are, and will continue to be, such a small club, the AFL needs to decide if that ongoing assistance is worth the 10th Victorian club, or if that assistance should go elsewhere.

In the history of the draft, there's many many more duds than studs at that range of 1st round selections. So I would suggest that it's every clubs recruiters, not just ours.

If he plays for Haileybury he is a top class kid, good family, nice cat.
But if the kid is from Dandenong forget about that he gets 12 contested possessions a game, he is a bad kick.
There's no art to drafting. We have proven it we have won 3 flags off the back of 3 top 10 picks, 3 top 10-15 and a shittload of rookies and preseason selections.
It's almost as though drafting is more good luck than anything else.
In the media, it seems that drafting has been consistently overrated while development has been consistently underrated. The latter, given the flaws of the under 18 system, clearly matters a lot more.
