Just saw him on ABC News standing next to Max Gawn. Both the same height, WOW!

Lynch must have been standing on Jack Higgins head.
Max is over 208cm.

Should be a good decoy for Georgie!
:hihi

All jokes aside I think Georgie will be one of the main beneficiaries of TL’s presence. With just that little bit less pressure to take marks and kick goals I bet that is exactly what he’ll do.

Hard to believe he has been a tall target and expected to bring the ball to ground for the small blokes! Gotta make his life easier FFW!

Not if George is the one who makes way.....

George would be hoping that Bolton has a mediocre preseason and Butler, Rioli and Higgins have great preseasons that demand more midfield time.

George's strengths are defensive pressure and bringing the ball to ground. Lynch will help bring the ball to ground...

Stating the obvious but George needs to finish better or he'll get squeezed out.

a long deal. but the tradeoff and win for us I think is that he is only getting 900k a year not the 1m plus that was being bandied around.
if he smashes it in the first 2-3 years, his worth would be more like 1.4m but still we will only be paying him 900k from the cap. leaves some spare cash there so I would say a big win salary wise for us also.

I cannot believe we’re signing Lynch for 900k. That’s absolutely brilliant work. In 5 years, players like him will be on 1.5m+. He’s a proven KPF captain for unders...

Great for team harmony.

Richmond's massive seven-year deal for Tom Lynch

Free agent key forward Tom Lynch will join Richmond on a seven-year deal.

Lynch is set to lodge his contract offer from the Tigers on Friday, the opening day of the free-agency period.

Lynch is expected to earn an average of close to $900,000 over his seven-year deal with Richmond, who have had to make significant adjustments to their list - re-contracting the likes of Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance and Trent Cotchin - to accommodate the former Suns captain, who was keenly sought by Collingwood and Hawthorn until Richmond won the race.

Lynch was paid more than $1 million this year at the Suns, meaning that he will take a substantial pay cut in his first year at Richmond.

While Gold Coast can match the seven-year term and force the Tigers into a trade, this possibility can be ruled out. The Suns will accept the compensation of pick No. 3, which could be used on either Izak Rankine or fellow South Australian Jack Lokosius or another highly rated teen in the draft pool.

The Suns will have picks two and three, potentially giving them access to Lukosius and Rankine or the King brothers, Max and Ben.

The seven-year deal for Lynch, who turns 26 at the end of this month, matches the length of term that champion Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin secured last year when he was a free agent, although Martin's wage is significantly higher at close to $1.2 million a season.

The long term allows the Tigers to spread out the payments, thus retaining key players. Reece Conca has already signed to switch to Fremantle as a free agent. Corey Ellis and Anthony Miles are set to join the Suns and Tyson Stengle wants to join Adelaide. Jacob Townsend's position is up in the air.

Lynch is one of the first free agent dominoes to fall, with West Coast's Andrew Gaff potentially joining North Melbourne and teammate Scott Lycett likely to cross to Port Adelaide on a long-term deal.

And from the peanuts in the comments section... :hihi

Is he actually that good?

Oracle
The system is broken when last year's premiers and this year's minor premiers can raid one of the bottom teams for their best player.
Swans got Franklin from the reigning premiers of the time (legally) and were penalised by not being able to trade for 2 years.
Yet no criticism at all for Richmond. Disgraceful.

Shane Nixon
Presumably Richmond will be penalised with a 2 year trade ban and have a salary cap reduction after such an outrageously long and expensive deal that does not break any rules.
Just like when Sydney got Buddy.

Great for team harmony.

To put it into context, there are reports going around that the Saints are offering Dylan Shiel 1.4mil a year, and others around 1.2.

Amazing work from Blair and the team.

Great work from Tom and the list management team. It is a bit like Danger signing for unders so he could get to Geelong. He was a bit different though as he only had the one option due to where he wanted to live.

Under a million is a steal, especially when you hear about the money being thrown at Hanners & Shiel.
