Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

I have liked the sight and sound of this guy from the start, just on gut instinct really. But seems to be showing promise already ... and he's still only 18!?

So did l. Any player who can get himself from Kalgoorlie to Perth to play football without training with his teammates and get himself selected in rep teams has the necessary desire to succeed. All this while finishing school as well.

Has not been in an elite training systemfulltime until now.

So he has got the desire. He has got the work ethic. From his stats he has the size. Now up to the development staff to shape this gem

Certainly a great background story of this kid, different but similarly interesting background for a sausages Mumford type footy yarn.

Reckon the clubs recruiters have done well to snaffle Ben with a late pick n give him the opportunity to have a full scale crack at the elite level. Obviously biased as Ben's been drafted to the Tigers, but there's always a bit more enjoyment watching when kids make the grade from outside the usual elite pathways.

totally agree with you TigerMasochist

its refreshing to see a kid pick from or given the opportunity from outside the 'normal' elite systems

they come with a lot of extra benefits both physical mental and footy smarts .........

This bloke's a glamour. He is Miss World with the football. Moves like Garry Sidebottom but quicker. Similar ruck style too. Fine athlete.

Let's hope he is better at catching the team bus ....

Mobile bigs who get involved in general play. They don't grow on trees.

Two years away from being two years away. And that's fine.

If he grows another few centimetres he's another back-up ruck, that just adds to his value.

Told us at Club 80 he doesn't think he's got any physical growth left in him.
They reckon Naish has

It's surprising that he is as tall as he is, his brother plays for Subiaco and is 180 cm's. There's a photo online of the two brothers and parents after he was drafted, they're not tall either.

At U18 level this bloke looks big. Real big.

I think he's probably finished growing and when there are AFL size players on the park Ben Miller looks about Astbury size but slighter.

By far and away the biggest factor limiting his current performance at VFL level is a lack of physical confidence. He is a boy and looks it, particularly to himself.

You have no idea how quick this bloke is. He's quicker than Broad. He doesn't get the air yet but smarts, smarts.

Ben Miller is an elite ball user in the making. He's not doing any where near enough yet but his IQ looks brilliant. Constructive player.

Spot on Jack. He is developed physically but doesn't know how to use it.
What I noticed yesterday was he was soundly beaten one on one. His body on body work was poor.

But in saying that his upside is massive. A lot to work with. Pace is blistering.

Get the body strength and positioning right and we could have a serious player.

Truck Rutten , Leppa, and Rance will all get that sorted pretty well youd think.

Good to read a supporter thoughts on Ben. Sounds as though we have something good in him for the future

There was a moment against Box Hill in Q1 when Miller was running back to protect the open goal from a small who was twenty metres in front of him, and Miller managed to put himself between the ball and the goal by the time the Box Hill bloke actually picked it up. Miller made up the ground on the bit. Might’ve thought the chase was in vain but hopefully learned a lesson that you’re never out of the contest.

He plucked an intercept at speed on the half volley in defence in Q3. Didn’t realise how much time he had and opted the 55m dump kick over the entire wing. IIRC it was turned over. But not before he gained 65 metres.

He was much busier in the second half as he adjusted to the pace of the game. Grabbed a towering intercept mark and also broke a tackle under pressure before releasing a handball to a running defender. Both in Q4.

Doesn’t know how quick he is, or what he is capable of. Yet. Awesome project player.

There is alot about Ben Miller thats exciting with his physical attributes but i have not seen alot of him, For anybody who has watched him closely what is his reading of play and ball distribution like is he a good field kick and does he read the play and ball drop well ?

Thanks for the insight on Ben. It is great info for those of use who cannot get to training or VFL.
