Political correctness & other nonsensical rubbish

Legends of 1980 said:
I know it hasn't happened yet but I hope councils don't think of putting any bans on christmas festivities this year for fear of offending non-christians (I am probably agnostic by the way). Going through a shopping centre on the weekend, there was santa and his helpers. There were all the kids, a fair proportion were Muslim, having a fun time. I say they were muslim because their mums were wearing the traditional headscarf. They didn't care about the fact that they weren't christian, they were kids having a good time and nobody seemed offended by it.

Legends,
I reckon you're spot on.
In many of the cases I have posted so far...it is NOT the minority group that is up in arms about Christmas....it is people with a hidden agenda that is at fault, and they are using the protection of a minority group as an excuse to try and get their own way.
Usually this group I label the "lefties", however to be more exact, they are "lefty atheists".
As you know, I'm not a big fan of the ALP and not a fan of Bracks, but at least he was on the money with this one:

Green light for school Christmas celebrations
November 21, 2005 - 12:02PM
A ban on Christmas celebrations at some state schools was political correctness gone too far for fear of offending "one or two people", Victoria's education minister has said.
Lynne Kosky announced this morning that Victorian government schools will be asked to bring Christmas back to the classroom this year.
Reacting to bans on Christmas celebrations in some schools in previous years, Ms Kosky said it was important that Australia's predominant religion — Christianity — was recognised by teachers.
Several schools, kindergartens and child-care centres last year refused to stage Christmas celebrations, instead opting for more secular end-of-year parties.
Ms Kosky said some had been over-cautious in deciding to cancel Christmas activities

Perhaps a cut back on quantity then would be suffice rather than a total ban.

I forget the exact price, I think (don't quote me here) it has risen for being almost gratis to thousands of dollars. The issue is with the power lines being managed by private firms, where once it was a community service, now they want a profit from the arrangement.

No mention here of Muslims actually complaining (see first line of article underlined)...but again....more over the top craziness from the political-correct left, THINKING they are protecting a minority group:

No ham for Christmas: Muslim menu for WA hospital
December 17, 2005 10:00pm
A WA hospital has scrubbed baked ham from its Christmas menu, fearing Muslim patients could be offended.
It has also overhauled its entire menu so that all meals are now halal – containing only meat and other food prepared according to Muslim customs.
But Port Hedland Regional Hospital staff and many non-Muslim patients are outraged, saying it is a case of political correctness gone mad.
Kitchen staff are so angry that they have organised a petition demanding ham be put back on the Christmas menu.
Other WA hospitals are also introducing halal dining, though the Health Department says Port Hedland is the only one to convert its entire menu to suit Muslims.
Hospital directors decided to axe the traditional festive season baked ham because of the high percentage of Muslim patients.

'Beer boobs' ads are a boo-boo and a no-no
By Peter Mickelburough
June 13, 2007 07:01am
BEER ads starring a bikini-clad woman under the title "Hahn boobs" are under fire for offensive sexism.
The state's peak health advisory body, VicHealth, has written to the Advertising Standards Bureau asking for the ads to be shelved.
VicHealth boss Todd Harper said the treatment of women in the ads on television and the internet was appalling.
In the television advertisment promoting low carb beer Hahn Superdry, a young man turns a love heart drawn in the sand by a bikini-wearing woman into a pair of breasts before swigging from a beer bottle.
The internet site, Hahn Boobs, takes the campaign a step further.
"Our concern is not only the TV ad but the internet component which takes it to extremes in the inappropriate portrayal of drinking and sexual prowess," Mr Harper said.
"Reducing it to a discussion of boobs seems to be quite a deliberate strategy and one that women would be entitled to feel was quite degrading," Mr Harper said.
"Men as well should feel aggrieved that consuming beer equates with issues of sex and sexuality and women's bodies

Instead of being so critical and going off half-cocked we could all try being a bit more understanding and try and walk around in each other's shoes for a bit.

SixPack,
Here is another example of the social-engineering left changing things with the idea they are protecting a minority group when the minority group in question is not offended to begin with!
Of course, then people take their angst out on the minority group thinking they are behind it:

Penguins lose fairy tag
By Hannah Davies
April 16, 2006 12:00am
THEME park bosses have re-named their colony of fairy penguins amid fears they could upset the gay community.
Managers at Sea World, on the Gold Coast, are now calling the species "little penguins" in case associations with the word "fairy" offend visitors to the park.
"We didn't have any complaints about the name of the penguins, but someone thought they could be seen as offensive so we decided to change it to little penguin instead," a Sea World spokeswoman said. "We just didn't want to upset the gay community. The new name is more politically correct."
However, Queensland's gay community and other zoos which keep fairy penguins described the name change as ridiculous and unnecessary.
Kamahl Fox, chairman of gay support group the Gold Coast Breakers, said: "I wouldn't be upset by fairy penguins at all.
"I don't think our community is that sensitive about those things. If the penguins were called *smile* penguins or something more direct then it might be a problem, but I don't see the name fairy penguin as a mickey-take at all."
A spokesman for Brisbane's Gay Dads group said the name change took political correctness to the extreme.
"People have been going to see fairy penguins for years and that shouldn't have to change," he said. "The word fairy hasn't been offensive to gay people for about 30 years -- it's just not an issue."

Cheerleaders ordered to cover up
By Hannah Davies
April 16, 2006 12:00am
SCANTILY-clad cheerleaders have been ordered to cover up because of fears they may be encouraging schoolgirl anorexia.
Cheerleading's governing body Gymnastics Australia is banning teams from baring their midriffs and has given them until the end of the year to find new uniforms.
The organisation believes the revealing costumes make sensitive teenagers feel uncomfortable about their weight and "affect the self-esteem of others".

Some standards here aren't too bad in my opinion. Some of the sports ones can look like they just finished a shift at Bar 20, and if this is for school cheerleaders, I have definite issues about girls being sexed up to do routines for a schol sanctioned group.

It depends how old the cheerleaders are though, Tiger74.

I think as a society, kids are getting introduced to sex at a younger and younger age.
Plus adults aren't helping the situation.

For example, those stupid little bras made for 5 year old girls.
What does a 5 year old girl need a bra for?

Regarding the cheerleaders though....if the cheerleaders themselves are only 8 years of age, and they are doing 'dirty dancing', then I can understand the uproar for covering up more.

However, if the cheerleaders are fully grown adult women cheerleading as a profession, and there are a bunch of wowsers badgering them to cover up with some fickle idea that some bare midriffs cause teenage girls to have self-esteem issues, then I think this is another case of political correctness gone mad.

Don't get me started on kids and this stuff. My new role is in a field which covers amongst other things kids toys. I have actually seen a pole dancing kit on sale for under 8's to (this is may not be 100%, but was essentially the message on the box) "to bring out your inner sex kitten".

For adults, only issue is we target AFL, NRL, and basketball to kids, and women prancing around in g-strings and bras only probably isn't the best image for family friendly sport.

The thing is....the complaint aimed at the cheerleaders in the article I posted wasn't about sexual moves and g-strings in front of kids at the footy....it was about bare midriffs apparently causing schoolgirl anorexia and ruining girls self-esteem.

What about the white 18-35 male's self-esteem for going to the footy or rugby, and NOT seeing cheerleaders showing some skin?
Again the majority are discriminated in favour of a very small minority. :hihi

Damages for man fleeing Connex
December 4, 2007
CONNEX Trains has been ordered to pay more than $500,000 in damages to a man who tripped and broke his wrist while running from ticket inspectors.
Panel beater Joseph Chetcuti, 31, spat at the inspectors who stopped him boarding a train at McLeod station in Melbourne's north-east, after he had twice crossed the tracks illegally and jumped a wire-mesh fence.
Mr Chetcuti lost balance and fell, breaking his wrist, as he ran down a ramp chased by the inspectors on April 10, 2003.
During a civil trial in the County Court, Mr Chetcuti said the inspectors held him to the ground and he pulled his upper body underneath a nearby fence in a bid to escape onto the railway tracks.
Handing down the judgement yesterday, Judge Susan Cohen said Mr Chetcuti ran away because he "feared being harmed" by the inspectors, who aggravated his initial wrist injury by trying to pull him away from the fence.
Judge Cohen said she was not convinced that one of the inspectors, Imran Jamal, had deliberately trodden on Mr Chetcuti's wrist — but found that he and his colleague, Corado Alongi, had acted unlawfully in their attempts to restrain him.
The struggle ended when police arrived and took Mr Chetcuti to hospital, where he was given morphine for his pain and had screws inserted into his wrist the following day.
The court heard that Mr Chetcuti required further surgery after a plaster cast was removed two months later, when it was revealed that two bones had healed but one had not.
He had further surgery and now has significantly reduced movement in his wrist, where he is likely to develop osteoarthritis in the future.
Judge Cohen said Mr Chetcuti, who left school after year 10, was unable to continue his work as a panel beater and had limited employment opportunities.
She awarded him $130,000 in general damages for pain and suffering, $114,580 for loss of earnings, $20,745 for lost superannuation contributions to date, and $272,640 for loss of future earnings.
Connex Trains is liable to pay Mr Chetcuti total damages of $537,965. Connex spokesman John Rees said the company needed to look at the full text of the judgement before considering its response

Is this your leftist social engineers Liverpool? Or a Right wing capitalist ensuring he/she gets great free advertising and many gays to enter his/her zoo?

Either way it's over the top and a true non event.

"Do-gooders do more harm than good up here at the Isa" a line in one of John Williamson's many songs. I don't think it only applies to Mt. Isa. It is amazing how do-gooders think they have the right to enforce their opinions and standards on the general populace. They are always interested in fixing other people's lives - Yet when you talk to them they really have a struggle in coping with their own lives.

As an animal on this planet we humans do have to be more tolerant and understanding of others - so we as a species can survive well into the future - but some people just take it too far and force their religious or political or moral beliefs upon everybody.

To those people I say - being a muslim or a practising christian or a right wing red neck or a left wing socialist or a pommie subject or a bloody Collingwood supporter just DOES NOT sit comfortably with me.

I am a firm believer that if a persons way of life is sooooooo gooooood then he/she should live their life in such a manner that attracts others towards their beliefs rather than trying to force feed everybody else into following their doctrine and dogma so they too can have a happy and rightious life.

Having said that I also believe - A tad more tolerance would go a long way to fixing a lot of the ills in todays world........................RT

School nativity plays under threat
By Julie Henry and Vikki Miller
Last Updated: 3:44am GMT 03/12/2007
Shepherds dressed in old sheets, Christmas carols and the competition to see who will play Mary and Joseph… nativity plays have been a feature of British primary-school life for generations.
Only one in five schools are planning to perform a traditional nativity play this year. They are now outnumbered by schools that say they will be either putting on a non-religious play, such as Scrooge or Snow White, or giving no performance at all.
Almost half the schools said they planned to put on modern reinterpretations of the Christmas story, with extra characters, new songs and modern themes, such as The Bossy King, Whoops-a-Daisy Angel or The Hoity-Toity Angel.
The findings will add to fears that Christian teachings are being abandoned by schools, despite the wishes of parents. Recent surveys show an overwhelming majority of families would like the nativity play, telling the story of Christ's birth, to live on in schools.
Experts on religious education said headteachers were failing in their duty as educators if they ignored one of the most central stories in our culture. Terence Copley, Professor of Educational Studies at Oxford University, said the idea that the nativity could offend other faiths was "crazy".
"I have never met a single Jew, Muslim, Sikh or Buddhist who has objected to the commemoration and celebration of the birth of Jesus," he said. "In Islam, he is a prophet and his birth is described in the Koran. It is not other religions that are pushing for this at all.
"If we avoid Christmas we are pandering to a secular minority and allowing the event to become all about commercialism, presents and self-indulgence.

Primary school chooses Madonna over Christmas carols
December 09, 2007 12:00am
A PRIMARY school has scrapped its Christmas carols concert in favour of scaled-back shows featuring nursery rhymes and Madonna's Papa Don't Preach.
Disenchanted parents have written to Premier John Brumby - who called on schools to embrace the festive season last month - seeking his intervention.
The latest furore follows attempts to ban some shopping centre Santas from shouting "Ho Ho Ho", as fears grow that Christmas is under threat.
Ringwood East's Tinternvale Primary prompted the anger after replacing the long-running concert with individual class productions.
Songs in the new-look mini-performances include a reworked version of Papa Don't Preach - a song about illegitimate pregnancy.
The parents claim the change was prompted by school bosses' fears Christmas celebrations would offend a Jehovah's Witness student.

This is irrelevant, Brumby said a couple of weeks ago he was happy to see nativity plays in all schools, and would be unhappy with this sort of thing.

So what?
The school bosses' will do what they like...who cares what Brumby says or if he feels 'unhappy' about it.

The fact that this sort of thing is still happening is good cause for it to be relevant and on this thread dedicated to the political correct nonsense that the majority of us must endure.
