QF Game Day - Richmond vs Brisbane Lions

Yep but there isnt any highlighting or pontificating or shaming for that from the pundits and media heads.

It all shows the agenda below the surface of this comp.

Why are the Tigers being cast as the evil empire, the mean and cheating and cocky and ungracious.

Tigers are well drilled, sportsmanlike, dont whinge in the media or sook to get their way and considerate of modern demands and available.

The Unsociable Hawks were the faves of all time tough mean unsociable but yet praised and loved.

The RFC its like we have overstayed our one season welcome, maybe its because we stopped the Gee Whiz (the AFLs pet project) from winning the flag then backed it up beating another non Vic side.

Yet the Magggots and Geelong and Essendon and Hawthorn get fawned upon and have their *smile* kissed by the AFL and the media.

There is a dead set hatred and anti Richmonsd sentiment permeating every facet of print and visual media its impossible to avoid it.

I still cant explain why, except they eny the RFC and its Army.

I've been around for 6 flags and non-Richmond folk either pity us or hate us.

It's the hate phase now and long may it last!

Finally, for the first time in our long and proud history, the Tigers have made the preliminary final for the 3rd consecutive year.

That stat needs to be put in some perspective.
It's only since 1994 that there have been two preliminary finals and as such making one has meant that you are definitely one of the top four teams for the year.
Before then, there was only one and making it meant you were second or third best at the time, not necessarily first, and you had to beat the other top two to win the flag.
In those terms, winning the second semi final and not having to even play in the preliminary final was just as good if not better than reaching a prelim.
So, Richmond got that far:
5 years in a row from 1931-35,
3 years in a row from 1942-44,
5 years in a row from 1971-75,
Also before 1931 the systems used sometimes defied logic but there's no doubt we also got that far 3 years in a row from 1919-21.

Fagan still scratching his head how his team dominated all the stats in the past 2 games yet were slapped off the park by the tigers. He's gonna study the tapes all summer trying to figure out how we did it.

Clarko and Bolton were up in the stands trying to figure it out also.

Dimma in his presser said there were stats and aspects of our game that the coaching panel valued higher than clearances and contested possessions but he wouldn't elaborate further. Glad he didn't.

Dimmas evolution as a coach has been extraordinary. Once he was obsessed with stats, contested possessions, clearances and ball security.

Fagan is the Walden from Shawshank Redemption..
“I’d like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other then that bullet, was wonder how the hell Damien Hardwick got the best of him”

I'm sure more than 95% of this forum is enjoying our win. Whatever the media comes out with will always be whinged/discussed/analysed on here. Not sure what you're problem is.

Bloody oath. Loving the win as I reckonalmost all on here are, a very passionate (if maybe biased?) bunch.
I think TBR must be a Ling fan.

I was at the Gabba and I have to give a shout out to the Tiger army. The atmosphere in Brisbane, on the plane, in the airports and at the ground was amazing.
It was maybe a 60-40 crowd which for a sold out interstate final is almost unprecedented.
Our supporters are incredible and I am sure the players appreciate it. Great weekend.

Wanted the post the same.
Well said Harry.

What a turnaround in Dimma.

It use to do my head in and so many supporters when Dimma would sit in pressers talk about stats smatts.

Evolution from 2017 to now truly remarkable.

Journey not over for Dimma and this team in two weeks time.

Did they upset any of the Brisbane supporters for being too loud?

A couple of my Brisbane mates were a bit stunned by our Army's passion.

walking out, they all looked like a flock of birds who had collectively flown into a window and then dispersed.

Most looked like they would have failed a concussion test.

Is there such a thing as a sonic cultural concussion?

Yeah I heard a few comments about "Y&B!" A few young'uns hadn't experienced a final either. They were a bit stunned.

Brisbane supporters arent real supporters.
Even on tv you can tell. They wait till a umpire makes a call then they either cheer or Boo.
Its a night out for thrm thats it.
90% of them wouldve not even given a shittt on the result.
Put the broncos on at the same time and then have a look how many turn up.
Only Xpat victorians

Gee, hasn't Soldo improved in spades.

His bulk is hard to move and his tap work was exemplary the other night.

He also makes more of the right decisions.

Loved our overall game on the weekend, not many faults apart from the obvious one.....................................

Hit us hard, we will absorb it.

Bomb it long, we will mark it.

Scrub it in, we will crumb it.

You have X, we have Dusty.

We even have a potentially dangerous dual ruck proposition. This makes me more confident we can come up with a plan to work NikNat and Grundy over.

There isn't much we can't do these days.

Having said all that, there are no givens to winning a Premiership but it is good to know we have the right weapons in place to maximise our chances.

Get around 'em, Spring is in the air ;)

GO TIGES!!!

Watched the last 3 quarters on replay last night. Some observations...

The game was so, so quick. We are the best wet weather team, but we're no slouches in the dry neither. They just couldn't keep up with us after quarter time.

We destroyed them with the chaos ball going forward. We just reacted better.

We kicked straight coz all our shots were sodas. But jeez they missed some easy ones in the second quarter.

Everyone was talking about Dusty, Prestia and Grimes. But OMG Edwards is a star.

And that third quarter was just sublime. Probably the best quarter we played all season.

To me, the game unfolded eerily similar to the 2017 GF.
- 2 goals down at quarter time.
- 4 goals to zip in the second.
- Broke the game open early in the third.
- 112-65 v 108-60 in the GF.
- Even Rioli hurt his ankle late in the game, haha.

Well said Tigerman
I couldn’t agree more.....those of you that were fortunate enough to make it to the game , did the rest of us proud
It was great to see that the RFC allocated seats were from the Cheer Squad (behind the goals), all the way around to the wing on the outer side..... giving the Tiger army maximum exposure on TV.
Every time the camera was on the crowd, the Tiger army were massively into it.....even the Cheer Squad looked bigger than what it does when at the G

Did anyone go to the pre game function ? Or any post game functions?......or can anyone that was there give us an insight to the atmosphere, and the banter with the Brisbanites

I was there. about 1,000 people at the Shafston. 99% richmond. Black and yellow everywhere I went in Brisbane. my seats were magnificent. row B on the wing, right next to the Richmond race.

AFL again showing what an unprofessional organisation they are. Why is it every club has had to come up with a genuine clash guernsey except Collingwood? Like reversing black and white stripes to white and black makes all the difference.... tail wagging the dog

because they are too gutless to stand up to Eddie. I'm still shaking my head that Eddie was the one who complained about this. The gall on that man

I fell into the trap of too many plans and missed catching some PRE'er mates.

Im switching my phone off from 20 Sept until October.

I'll see you blokes at The London at the appropriate hours and at Princess Park.

But my observations from The Gabba.

all the Brisbane fans seemed to be on the upper decks and they got a few moaning soccer chants going early.

But they swirled off on the breeze towards Cleveland.

The Tiger Army was all assembled at ground level and roaring.

I'd lost my voice 10 minutes in, but ran out and grabbed a schooner and gargled it (didnt spit), and pushed through the pain.

The Tiger Army really used the battle smarts we've acquired experientially over the last few years and were very cohesive.

It was a rout.

I didnt hear a single attempted chant un-joined. To put our platoon's cohesion to the test, I even sang an Ian Dury song and substituted Shane Edwards for Clever Trevor, and some more experienced soldiers joined the refrain with unwaivering courage.

'Knock-me-down wiv a feva, Sha-ane Edwards'

And there were very clever campaigners stationed in the perfect pattern, who knew when and what to do to instigate a charge. The only one I didnt join was 'tiger land' with 10 minuted to go, because I just dont sing until the final sirens gone, and the battle was over. I just surveyed the carnage and smiled, and helped a couple of the enemy to their feet.

I even prevented a middle-aged tiger goose supporter from being knocked out by an understated Lions fan in the full bloom of manhood, who was built like Toby Nankervis. I grabbed the enormous Lion by the shoulders and told him

'steady son, we're all tigers here. Hows Dusty hey?'

he laughed and spared the hapless tiger.

But Brisbane supporters were comprehensively outflanked from ticketing through to the final siren and beyond.

In pub afterwards, they all had stupid looks on their faces and didnt know where to rest their eyes.

It was a total demolition on the field and in the stands.

The AFL insisted that we wear our clash guernsey in the Grand Final, but are as quiet as a church mouse when it involves Collingwood.
With negotiated suspensions, not made to wear a clash guernsey, the only conclusion i can come up with is that Eddie must have photos of Gil.

Easy - Some people are pretenders. Some are Gods in their role.

You fall clearly into the latter.

Your willingness to push through the pain is Lablett-like in "gut run" equivalence; Grimes-like in "staple it back on, she'll be right" hardness; And Broad-like in "Give us another beer Love, nice norkies" vision.

I loved the Brisbane game plan going forward of, let's put all our forwards within a 15m circle of each other, at the top of the goal square, and bomb it into the same spot every time. It was a mauling feast for our tiger backline. Amateur hour.

Fagan sooked it up, but in the end it was quite simple. He was out-couched and taught a finals lesson (2 games in a row). Not the brightest spark.

I would want watch the reply again but my ONLy concern is allowing a side 29 shots on goal.!

Before anyone has a go.

1. I’m always half glass full. Scars can take many many years to not be at the background. Voices in your head stuff.

2. Not one eyed ALL Tigers can’t do wrong and don’t look at what can be improved and worked on.

3. How many were rushed?

4. How many were right in front?

5. How many were touched on the line?

6. How many were on an angle/wide?

I know all it takes is to kick goals out of your backside . We saw how accurate WC were against us and we have to say , for once in a long time, we were bloody accurate.

18-4

When was the last time we were so accurate.

Whether we play WC or the Cats we have to rectify that aspect. We wouldn’t want WC having if we play them 29 shots on goal. They are a arsey goal kicking side!!

Say my thoughts after thinking about the game in a more clearer light that’s all.
