Really like the way he is developing. Played very well last night and has good game craft. He needs to take more marks but that will come with more strength and experience. What about that kick to Judson Clarke in the last quarter!! Wow!
I think where the lines get blurred with all that anyway , many of the kids get to those schools through scholarships if they are good at footy/ sport .Let's ditch the 'private schools v working class' agenda, no place for it. I know plenty of private school boys who are now doing very well as tradies, etc. if that's what you mean by 'working class'. If there are many AFL players who are from private schools then so what! Surely their football talent is why they got drafted, not what school they went to. A nurturing home environment also has a huge part to play. Anyway, if those schools nurture talent and provide the right opportunities then isn't that a good thing? If you think students from state schools are not being drafted because of the school they went to then show me the proof. Yes I went to a non-government school and then I taught in state schools for 20 years so I've seen both sides and it's natural talent and a supportive home environment that plays a huge role along with excellent junior coaching.
Fair. Clsss snobbery goes both ways. Agree with all that re. talent development, they do a great job. My main gripe is the constant reference to these schools by the Ch 7 commentary team during games. We get it, BT and Brayshaw!Let's ditch the 'private schools v working class' agenda, no place for it. Soldo’s not too shabby as a tap ruckmanThe Bolton goal. I can't remember the last time we had a ruckman tap to a player which led to an easy goal.
You bet there’s doubt, he’s a tall, this is very similar to the Gus Graham/ Ben Grifffiths/Liam McBen hype. He’s still 50/50. Is he showing some good tap work absolutely, is he still looking like his arms and legs aren’t connected to his central nervous system at certain times, absolutely. Again he’s tracking ok but I’m not going to push the chips into the middle of the table. And I’ve been wrong and flipped on blokes ( Broad & MacIntosh) so I’m not Fonzie. But young rucks / talls are dicey.Others said he was no better than Gus Graham and only 50/50 to even make it. Less than a fortnight ago, they said that. That's not belief. That's doubt, at best. Dismissal at worst. Clanger regardless, as must now be blindingly obvious to all but the most unwilling to see.
My take on ruck stats is that the data is one sided.Yeah just another lazy 41% of hit outs to advantage. What this guy can do with the ball in the ruck is outstanding, and thats with aa relatively weak upper body. Even against Hawkins, where Hawkins ragdolls much bigger opponents than Samson, Samson just goes, ok I'll jump over you then.
Ryan is 22.18 year old kid ! Will be a big time player for us ...
Funny Scott's presser said the Blitzard was the dominate big man on the ground ))).
Yeah against an 18 year old )))
“Watched every ruck contest on replay twice”Richmond tiger talk going to have to buy some
Kleenex.
Been a while since we had Ryan bros at the clubShould make Samson's brother a Category B Rookie.
They usually don't put much work into bulking players up these days. In a running game it's more about lean muscle, get the strength but don't get cumbersome. At 22 years old, he's always going to put on a bit more bulk purely from natural growth n maturity while doing athletic work n training.I haven't seen many players tap the ball as well as Sampson. Also good around the ground.
I hope they consider NOT bulking him up too much. If he loses his leap he might be a lot less effective.
I agree. In fact if you had mentioned this part about the commentary team in your original post I would have understood your gripe. If they want to mention their background they could mention their U.18 team or the town/city they grew up in. How about writing to Ch.7?Fair. Clsss snobbery goes both ways.
