I see that Premier-Elect Daniel Andrews has put a piece in the Herald Sun about working hard to get the state working.

It looks like the first state of business was to put in 2 extra Public Holidays, one for Easter Sunday and the other for "Grand Final Friday".
Will this mean that those not working on Easter Sunday will get Easter Tuesday off in lieu instead, meaning that we get a 5-day weekend?
Also is it a coincidence that the Union Picnic Day Public Holiday is on the Monday after Grand Final meaning another 4 day weekend?

So much for getting the state working!!

Hey, I'm all for a day off but a public holiday for the day BEFORE the GF.....bizarre.

Was one of Mr Andrews' pre-election promises.

Instead its a Friday instead of Thursday.

Kid friendly holiday as the last two weeks of September and sometimes early October are school holidays.

Stupid reason for a holiday though.

i am never against extra public holidays... but if you wanna be realistic, melbourne cup day and queens birthday should really be dumped ahead of this one (or replaced by something with real relevance).

correct. i'm not against a GF eve/show day public holiday, but i think there are far more appropriate reasons.

It is so funny that Stefanovic has become the hard man of journalism! Just further shows how atrocious the levels of accountability, by the media, have become.

Time for a leadership spill. How much further can we go with this fruit loop?
 
It is common in the media to talk about "the political classes". It suggests t me, in fact it genuinely feels this way, that our politicians are now a seperate group wthin society. I often wonder what it takes to be one? How is it possible that Beazley, Howard, Gillard, Abbott, Shorten and to a lesser extent, Shaw, Obeid, Brandis, Pyne can be the best of us? Or how these particular people ended up at the pointy end of our political system. Why them and not some other group?
