Talking Politics

As a Liberal Supporter (sorry for writing this on the Labour Party Supporters Forum but I couldn't find another Politics page) the probable loss in Qld was the best thing to happen to the LNP for some time. Surely there will be a leadership change now as Abbott and the Liberals are a laughing stock, and with Abbott gone we may also get a competent Treasurer, hopefully someone with a background in money (please put Turnbull in this role, he's wasted in Communications).

More short term pain for the worst Australian PM ever but plenty of long term gain coming up.

As usual, state Labor will stink everything up in quick time and turn people back to the Libs just in time for the next federal election.

I'm a opposition supporter and I truly feel sorry for your mob. What a wanker of a leader. But I as well as very few others before your Liberal group were voted in knew exactly what Abbott was about. I like Turnbull. He is a very intelligent man but your group voted him out by 1 vote for this current embarrassing moron we have running the country. Bishop is not much better, was chucked out of being the Treasurer after a short stint. Looks pretty on the international stage in her portfolio now and many have rose coloured glasses when thinking she could step up. There is only one solution for your side to get back some form of dignity but they won't do that.

The rest of your options are really a embarrassment to any fair minded voter.

There are a few in here who would be Lib voters but can't stomach the thought of Abbott as Prime Minister. You are not alone.

Traditionally a supporter of the ALP but would have voted for the Libs in the last election if Turnbull was leader. Greens and Sex Party got my vote instead.

Fair enough in relation to the politics of most posters, it probably has its roots in the fact that footy is generally speaking a working class game, with teams from working class areas, in a state and a city that has been a pretty reliable Labor holdout, federally, for many years. I think politics has been stinking up the place for a while, helped by a rabid media that has ventured deeper and deeper into the political machinery looking for stories. When the covers have come off we've all been pretty disappointed with what we've seen. The Canberra Press Gallery has continued to say "ho-hum" because they've known this stuff but haven't had an outlet. Now there are outlets everywhere. It seems to me that politics as a practice (much like the judiciary IMO) hasn't made the leap into the 21st century. There is no way people like Abbott, Shorten, Brandis, Pyne, Rudd, etc would get to the top in a transparent, open system.

Just listened tyo some of Tone Abs's NPC speech. Please, Libs, for the sake of the nation, elect a new leader. Make the ALP work hard to try and win the next election.

Who manages the PMs pulse of the nation ? Surely I'm not the only one who thinks still trying to blame the prevgious government for things is well passed it's use by date and just makes Tony look like a very good opposition leader.

Agree Baloo. He is still blaming the previous government for his stuff ups. He has been a liability for the Libs now for a number of months. The whole party is on the titanic and it is just a matter of time before they hit that ice burg.

Nailed it. Tones just blamed the previous government while making it impossible for his party to move him on without looking like the previous government.

Just put himself completely ahead of the party. Must be moved on. Malcolm T please.

Julie Bishop could be a good PM. I had doubts when in opposition, but she's impressed me ever since Tone won the election. Speaks and presents well and shows honesty.

Problem for the Libs if they go for Julie Bishop is that they flayed Julia for being an female unmarried childless lawyer, and Julie is a female unmarried childless lawyer

:hihi

Oh god nooooooooooo TF. She couldn't even handle the Treasurer portfolio when she had a chance. Turnball is the only one that can turn the Titanic around.

She's done well with the public but then most foreign ministers seem to do well by virtue of the fact most of their policies and work don't seem to hit the average aussie.

But she's got the fact she defended CSR in the asbetstos hearings going against her. And she reminds me a little too much of Maggie Thatcher.

At least Thatcher was practicing scientist...

That's all I've got. Otherwise she was dragon.

Yep, first head of state to declare global warming as a real & present danger. Give me Thatcher over any of the current fundamentalists.
