Talking Politics

yes well done ToO

With the Abbott, he set the rules of engagement when he was in opposition, now he has to live by them in power and he has found out now that they are not pretty rules, reap what you sow.

My only problem is that I hope the rules haven't been set for the ever but I suspect they have.

Among the cavalcade of ministers pledging their support for Prime Minister Tony Abbott there was one statement that really stood out - for all the wrong reasons.

Defence Minister Kevin Andrews followed his colleagues by calling a press conference to plead for unity amid the extraordinary leadership crisis gripping the Liberal Party.

"I believe the team of Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard is the best leadership team for the Liberal Party and therefore part of the best leadership team of the Coalition for the country," he said.

It was unfortunate. And it was perfect.

Freudian slip? :rofl

Looks like Half Term Tony has made another Captains Call - which will cut short his reign by 24 hours

Another boneheaded play by Toned Abs - bringing the vote forward may lead to a temporary win in preventing a spill for now - but will make the root cause of disaffected back benchers even worse.

Nice one Tone. You really don't get it.

Yeah, this move makes it all about Abbott, not the party.

I laughed at Malcolm in the middle calling it a captains call.

The other funny thing was Malcolm going on for half an hour about what a good decision it was for Tony not to shift it... then an hour later Toned shifted it.

Cheats, liars, thugs and flogs always win out in the end. Abbott is all four rolled into one so I expect him to be PM for a while longer.

I also expect, and hope, that he will be PM for a little while longer.

However I disagree that he will win out in the end. In the meantime he can keep digging his own grave. The longest he can survive is 2 years.

Yeah, MitM managed to screw tones over twice without even trying.

Poor Hockey, once one of the parties top choice for leader, now relegated to needing Tone to stay in power just to stay on the front bench.

Looks like One Wink Tone has been given a reprieve with 60-40 result against the spill, but how deep is the faction within the Libs now?

It's win-win for Labor either way. This is probably an even better result for Labor than a spill as it means Toned Abs stays in office as a lame duck PM with diminishing support from the party and the electorate. Grace under pressure is not one of his attributes.

You can't survive long if two thirds of the back bench want you gone. This will give Turnbull, Bishop, Hockey etc sometime to rally their support. I give Toned two weeks.

This should be fun for the ALP. Tones will switch into opposition mode against his own party.

The country needs this sorted out. Tones isn't the answer, but neither is Shorten.

Yup. Gawd knows what's happening to the economy whilst this circus is taking place.. :help

I'm wondering exactly how important the budget is? Last years budget is in a mess and this years will be coming along soon enough. Will we get a budget on a budget? Seems to me the country stumbles along from year to year without the need for politicians.

Another thing that pisses me off right now is how much exactly did this circus cost the taxpayer. I can't imagine the Liberal party paying for the airfares and accommodation for all the MPs out of their own pocket. This isn't part of governing, this is a Liberal party internal squabble. Haven't they heard of the internet? Why the need to for everyone to go to Canberra? Maybe everyone should get a free flight to Canberra and free accommodation whenever it's time to vote in a federal election. Maybe the internet is just too slow for them (how ironic). A poll can be quickly created on an internet forum for gods sake. Total bunch of free loading douche-bags. All of them. I have no respect for any politician in this country, or most other countries for that matter.
