Talking Politics

Yep unfortunately nobody decent ever gets to be a PM or President, Snakeman.

Pretty hard to argue with that Chiang Mai. And getting truer as time goes on.

Dunno, while it's tough to call it a true democracy, Singapore's system of benevolent dictatorship under the guise of democracy serves the country well.

This still could go either way. Never have I seen an election where so many people I know haven't made up their minds prior to polling day. One thing I am pretty sure of is that noone will get a majority in the senate. The Australian people don't want it because they don't trust the LNP or the ALP enough to give it to them.

Personally I have an issue with voting for any party who locks families and children up like animals and leaves them in a position of such desperation that they want to self harm and set themselves alight. History will judge us harshly for what we have done in nauru and Manus, quite rightly.

My vote is likely to be a protest against the major parties who have completely lost my confidence and respect.

LNP = the big end of town, ALP = an increasingly irrelevant trade union movement. I yearn for a true social democratic party

Surely the "Brexit" campaign has taught us that politics has become so tainted as to be virtually pointless. Politicians now speak almost entirely in "newsspeak". Language has been bastardised to such a degree as to be now the opposite of what it evolved for; namely to transmit information. Politispeak is now a vehicle of disinformation. It is a contest to see who can say the least with the most words. Politicians answer simple questions with meandering and incoherent ramblings so that everyone has forgotten what the question was by the time they get to the end. Everyone except the journalist (if they are any good) but they both know the journo has limited time and so using it up means they have to move on at the expense of any meaningful discourse and the "news editor" will cut it out and find a grab to be repeated ad nauseum anyway.

I hate them all.

Good post.

Find it amazing that people aren't pulled up for not answering the question asked. Happens everywhere politics sport work.

I didn't expect that. The Age has backed Malcolm. Said he needs more time. Pretty much my thought as well.

Why the surprise? The Age, and Fairfax are centrist and unbiased. (and in this case wrong!).
any comparison between the age and news ltd papers such as the Hun, Daily Telegraph are very wrong. i think the Oz is reasonably fair, if right leaning.

I think they've got it right, so they can't be wrong.

I can't see why they're doing it. The LNP policies are abysmal, take your pick, education, environment, health, infrastucture. Woeful. They must be just backing a winner, maybe for political purposes. Shorten is an uninspiring leader sure, but policies are what actually matter.

Disclaimer, the environment is the most important issue for me. But I'm also of the strong view that good economic outcomes would flow from good environmental policies. The LNP's environmental policies are woefully, depressingly bad.
