According to B17, they're doing it because they are unbiased. probably explains why you can't understand it.

Who knows? Proving bias is an extremely difficult thing. I'm an analyst by profession, not that that means anything to anyone. All I can go on is what's in front of me. Environmental policy, by my analysis and that of the vast majority of neutral observers, environmental and economic, are woeful. Even Malcolm himself thought so back in 2011-12.

They are cynically doing the bare minimum required so they can be seen to be doing something while not upsetting, and even giving a leg=up, to big vested interests. It is so frustrating to me because I think environmental innovation will be where the next economic boom comes from, so even on Turnbull's 'innovation' mantra. pathetic fail, and he knows it.

I wonder why Fairfax like the company tax cut?

"Mr Shorten has, however, presented the nation with a legitimate choice. But we believe Mr Turnbull deserves the chance to deliver on the potential that stirred the nation when he came to power less than a year ago."

Basically they hope he can improve, and are willing to forgive him for doing nothing since he became PM. that seems the mantra for most who are voting for the Libs, that and 'stability'.
not many actually praising their policies.

Most swing voters who are voting for the Coalition maybe, but most people who vote Lib do so for the same reason most ALP voters vote ALP. That's what they vote regardless of the current policies and leaders.

Parallels with the RFC this year?

I think Fairfax just want the company tax cut. They're struggling

Why the surprise? The Age, and Fairfax are centrist and unbiased. (and in this case wrong!).
any comparison between the age and news ltd papers such as the Hun, Daily Telegraph are very wrong. i think the Oz is reasonably fair, if right leaning.

:rofl

But an AEC spokesperson was baffled by the idea of not voting, telling news.com.au: “Above and beyond, the question is why wouldn't you vote? It’s kind of fun seeing the atmosphere.

“But aside from social element, you are having your say. We live in a damn good democracy,

in Australia you have very easy access to your vote, you get to have a say about who represents you, I don’t know why people would fight to not vote.”

One man's fun atmosphere is another man's mummers farce. What is the point in voting for representation when the only options are psychopathic control freaks, most of which haven't performed an honest day's work in their entire lives? Damn good democracy indeed!

If you don't like our democracy, try living in Assad's Syria. Or Saddam's Iraq. Or Hitler's Germany. Or Stalinist Russia. Or Mussolini's Italy. Or Castro's Cuba. Or Suharto's Indonesia. Or Pol Pot's Kampuchea. Or Xi Jinping's China.

Lol "our democracy". The options on offer today are closer to those you've mentioned than what I'm after.

Oh that's right - people knock on your door at midnight, hold a gun to your head and take you away never to be seen again because you didn't pay your taxes

EDIT I left out the bit where you get tortured and executed along with the rest of your family.

I think most of us are well aware that Australia is a better country than some. It doesn't mean we don't have the right to complain about our dismal politicians.

Our politicians are incompetent fools but comparing them with Antman's examples is a bit extreme.

Of course we do - and we have something approaching freedom of speech to do so. And we can vote the incompetent wankers out. And we can stand for election ourselves.

Our system is far from perfect but try living in a society that doesn't have representative democracy. Your problems here become First World Problems, because that's all they are.

yep. and thankfully we will start by booting that fool David Leyonhjelm as quick and as far as possible.

You catch on quick for a conservative.
