Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Sooooo good.

So desperate.

Joel Selwood gets the love but this bloke does the same thing. With better disposal.

The captaincy, in my opinion, was too much, too soon - but he seems to have the hang of it now!

Absolutely agree, but I think we're starting to see the payoff. Actually has the fifth-best winning record of the 21 current captains.

Joined Des Rowe and will pass Matthew Knights this year for games led.

I'd forgotten The Flea was a captain, poor bastard deserved better than what he got in the mid-80s.

64 games and he's got the record. That's pretty achievable I'd reckon.

We may be known for sacking coaches but we do have faith in our captains. All recent captains there back to Flea except Free (who succumbed to injury) and Hogg (who succumbed to Fitzroy!)

If that was joel selwood we'd still be hearing about it.

There's definitely anti cotch bias in the media.

On Game Day Waite was asked if here was any pre-planning to stop Martin, he said no, but they talked about Cotchin. Fevola mentioned Cotch more than Martin. The perception ride is turning

If I had to plan for Richmond, I'd tag Cotch rather than Martin. Not because I think Cotchy is more damaging (though he is close) but because I think it's possible. There's no point in tagging Martin. He'll just push you away. He's essentially untagable. You're better off being ball focused and just try to beat him to it.

Cotch is providing those crucial big moments when the team needs them, he is at the top of the team captains this year IMO. I think he has taken a very big leap after assessing last year.

There seems to be a perception that Cotch can't shake a tag. This may have been the case in previous years but I'm not so sure about it this season.
This year we've got more guys to be "tagged". Cotch, Dusty, Prestia & to a lesser extent Shed. All in all its more head aches for the opposition to worry about.

It's probably easier to sit on someone who is always at the bottom of a pack trying to win the ball. With Prestia doing the grunt work, Cotch has more space to dance in which would make it harder for a tagger

He is a very high quality footballer and man, making him a fine leader. Very smart operator this year; asserting himself in key moments and really making a difference. He's not too fussed about producing a hot Q1. Saves it for when it might be really needed - 2nd half and last Q. Has always been a great player but was being hung on to before he could even move to the ball, barelled and thumped into the turf as soon as he got near it when he lost the cover that Jackson and Tuck, even Thomas, provided.

This year he has support, with Caddy, Presto and Edwards back, Martin barging off, he can escape some of the heat.

i think a second decent forward will allow cotchin to get even better by releasing caddy more into the mid field rotations in which we are limited by the need to play caddy up forward due to our small forward line.

I'd even consider getting the Bean back if we could mid-season. Anyone able to provide an aerial contest and bring the ball to ground!!!
