Give him a genuine crack in the midfield at AFL level. Nothing to lose. If he fails then he'll be elsewhere next year.

Have you seen how many games Dow gets? It clearly is a big decision at this club.People picking apart his game as if it's a really big decision to replace the likes of Dow.![]()
Strongly suspect it won't be once Smillie and Prestia are fit.Have you seen how many games Dow gets? It clearly is a big decision at this club.
I suspect it has to do with the physical side and ability to run defensively and put pressure/tackle the opposition. Fortunately for him Dow, Ross and Hopper combined for 4 tackles on the weekend so that argument shouldn’t even be a consideration.Sonsie has been putting in these type of of performances for a couple of seasons now at VFL level. Those in his corner should be asking what isn’t he doing to get the opportunity as an AFL midfielder. I want him to get a snr opportunity just to see what is reality rather than imagination.
How do we know if he is never given a go playing on ball in the seniors. Just assumptions.Played well today but I reckon I’ve seen him play at least a dozen games like that in VFL level over the years now.
Fast becoming another RCD, Martyn, Dow type. Very good in the VFL but that’s his level.
I'm wondering the same thing.Sonsie has been putting in these type of of performances for a couple of seasons now at VFL level. I pray that there's more competition, and openness to move past people with poor disposal. Somehow, I can still see Dow playing.Strongly suspect it won't be once Smillie and Prestia are fit.
Yeah he definitely doesn't defend and he looks timid there are times he can tackle and just looks scared to do itElite hands but the bloke has no defensive side to his game. Laid 1 tackle today.
Happy to be proven wrong, but I just don’t see where he fits in the side.
If you watched him carefully yesterday his poor disposal, especially in the first half, was when he was trying to avoid body contact. Panics and throws it on his boot. When the game opened up in the second half he had more time and space. If he doesn’t have the evasive skills to avoid contact, he’s going to have to learn to absorb the hit and still execute. He should watch highlights of McAuliffe who gladly takes the body contact and pushes through. But you need power and strength to do it.I think consistency is the key for Sonsie. In the first half yesterday even though he found the ball he wasn't much chop. Lots of wayward kicks. After half time he played to his strengths composure decision making and ball use. The longer the game went the better he got including straight lining the ball.
When he plays in the firsts he is a bit of a nothing burger. He is a bit of a fish out of water on a flank and you don't see his strengths too often.
I think people need to accept his limitations in that he is primarily a receiver mid but one that can work well in traffic. For that type of player he lives or dies by how he uses the ball. That's what he should be judged on.
I see no reason why he shouldn't play mid in the firsts this year. It's the time to do it.
Go to the boundary of a VFL game, 5 metres from the team bench, and listen. Will provides lots of cues as to why players are where they are.3 coaches have overlooked Sonsie in an AFL midfield role now. Why? What's he doing wrong? That's the question his advocates should be asking.
It's so this. Hard and relentless is not for everyone. Only very few can commit to it on a consistent basis. And that's at training and in games. So much of football is not fun. Even if I had the talent I would not have anywhere near the capacity for the mental and physical pain required. Not many do.I've been a supporter since before we even drafted him but the AFL game just seems too quick, hard and relentless for him. He has a lot more time and space at VFL level that he just won't get in the ones. He's not quick enough, dynamic enough, hard enough, and can't run hard enough.
