would have thought that a 13-23 free kick tally, at home, against an interstate team, would be a bit of an outlier?

Are these numbers true? That is beyond random statistical variation by any definition. That table of numbers, without the headings, should be pasted on the wall behind Yze at the press conference after our next win.

From AFL Tables.

In that period, there have been 39 instances where the home team were -10 differential.
Richmond have had 9 of those.(10 including Sunday)
23% compared to 17 other teams accounting for the other 77%

New TV required (again)

Can anyone recommend a TV with shatter proof glass by a thrown stubbie?
I've got a mate who installs TV's in prisons. He's got a box that will sort you out. Can't break it, hang yourself from it or use it as a weapon. Its almost like they designed it for Richmond supporters.

So I got a response from the club -

"Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us and share your concerns regarding recent events involving our players and the inconsistencies in umpiring decisions. We appreciate your loyalty as a proud member of our club, and we understand your frustration.

We want to assure you that we share your concerns and have been actively engaging with the league and its officials regarding these issues. While we empathize with your disappointment, it is important to note that umpiring decisions are ultimately out of our control as a club. The AFL strives to maintain a fair and consistent system, but we acknowledge that mistakes and perceived biases can occur.

We understand your desire for transparency and accountability from the league and its rule makers. We have been vocal about our concerns and have sought clarification on various decisions. However, it is a complex process, and change takes time. We are actively working behind the scenes to address these issues, but unfortunately, there is not much more we can do in terms of immediate action.

We genuinely appreciate your ongoing support and loyalty as a member of our club. Your passion for the Tigers is important to us, and we want you to know that your voice is heard. While we cannot guarantee the outcome of every match or control external factors, we remain committed to striving for success on and off the field.

If you have any further questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your feedback and will continue to do our best to represent the interests of our members and supporters.

Thank you once again for your understanding and unwavering support."

and my reply -

"Thanks for your prompt reply.

This has been going on for long enough and needs to stop. There are no perceived biases, make no mistake - it's as clear as the reason the AFL and Hocking brought in the stand rule. I understand it's out of the clubs control and you have asked for clarification in the background, however all you'll get from the AFL is lip service - nothing surer.

What I and many supporters are asking is the club leaders call out the obvious bias publicly in press conferences and in the general media. This needs to get traction so people see what's going on. I'm confident the majority of the membership base will help the club out with any fines they were to sanction us with. There is no way a club like Collingwood would tolerate and play nice if they were treated like this.

We've had enough."
I received the same reply Harry. I hope others have emailed the club as well. Your choice though

Might be several more shaftings then before we get to pin it behind Yze at his presser…

He also does nurse call systems. With a bulk order we could probably get him to set up the monitoring at AFL house. Then we could all sit at home shitting our pants, throwing stubbies at the TV and pressing our nurse calls everytime the muppets got it wrong. AFL house would light up like Times Square! Not only would the umpiring improve I reckon they'd up our morphine too!

I think during one of the pre season training sessions with the umpires on rule interpretations for season. Big Neil Balme ripped the umpires a new one in front of everyone.
Since then we’ve been on the receiving end of many dodgy calls by the umpires.
Yeah he said that in Club XIII once. He and Adam Kingsley were so dismissive of the umpiring department it wasn't funny. I don't think it's the umpires per se (though they are inconsistent/incompetent) it's the overall philosophy of basically "only pay 40 frees a game".

Rugby Union tried that and it failed so they then clamped down and penalised everything. Really noticeable 2 years ago in Super Rugby. Coaches learned quick smart and now you have a fast game, higher scores, and far fewer infringements. And now the RFU is looking to the same approach.

Spend 2 to 3 weeks in the AFL penalising everything (so 100+ free kicks a game) and watch how quick the holds and throws would disappear. But that would require a strong, consistent, non-compromised umpiring department.

And that the goes to Governance and hey we know how good Goyder is at that. /s

Wow, that is stunning, we are the only team to have a free kick deficit for our home games. Stunning. Not just a deficit either, a yawning chasm.

I'll add to this, here is a plot of the free kicks for and against for the period 2017 to 2023:

Free Kick chart 2017 to 2023.jpg

Gee, we're all alone in the top left corner, how did that happen? We get the least frees, our opposition get the most frees when they play us. Over a period of 7 years. Sorry, too much disparity there, something is going on.

For 2024 so far, we receive 71% of the frees awarded against us, And, you guessed it, this is the worst percentage of any team. That's after we got 16 to Gold Coast's 15 in Round zero. So, for rounds 1 and 2, we received 30 frees and 47 were received by our opposition, down to 64% for the last 2 rounds . . . both played at our home ground.

GWS have done fairly badly on fee kicks, so let's look at their home record:

Games: 75
Frees For: 1,399
Frees Against: 1,412

Quick calculation in my head but I'm generally pretty good.

So, even GWS received 13 more frees than their opposition at home.
