Welcome Josh Gibcus

We wanted to trade up for Ward, the Hawks had Ward and Johnson as their decision at 7. Hawks could've got Johnson at our pick and tucked away another second-rounder or 15 but they preferred Ward. We wanted Ward.

im stoked we didn't get Ward.

A poor-mans Sonsie IMO

The article on the site that must not be named about the machinations on day 1 of the draft are very interesting.
If true we tried pretty hard to get a pick before the bombers to get Hobbs but in hindsight the only real chance we had was with the eagles and they had a sweetheart deal with the power.

I like the point you make..... 'If true'....!

Call me a sceptic, but...... Callum Twomey's job at the AFL is to create content and to keep us clicking away all over the off season.

We, as Richmond supporters tumble in, myself included...... but opposition supporters are where the big numbers are, hoping to read that we have failed at something!

No doubt he's got his favourites amongst the recruiting fraternity, (I think Dodoro being the main one) so I sort of take the view that he gets fed a serious amount of bull *smile*, puts a bit of his own spin on things.... then fills in the blank spots with a fair amount of supposition and journalistic palaver!

There has been plenty of reports pre draft that we were looking to be active and to trade if the price was right.
Even Clarke intimated as much.

Who we were targeting may be conjecture. No one spotted us taking Brown or Banks for instance.
I'd like to think we were keen on Hobbs

Ward looks the goods, but a pairing of Ward and Sonsie isnt a great balance.
Reckon The Gib and The Sonz are better long term

The fact the Tigers had five early picks in the draft, and indeed could secure star young key defender Josh Gibcus with their first pick this year, made the idea of blending a veteran and kids that much easier. (As an aside, Gibcus came second in the club’s 4x1-kilometre time trials of first-to-fourth-year players last week. He is 196 centimetres. He beat the midfielders.)

That pic in the article. ......... fmd, I thought a trimmed down Sav Rocca had made a comeback!

So Gibcus has height, size, big leap, can take a mark, reads the play well and has the running profile of a midfielder?

He is going to end up a forward.

The best part of that article below - could we have found another explosive Balta type running around - Gibcus could play a defensive wing if his stamina is OK

And "The Ward" doesn't quite have the same resonance to it as "The Gib or The Sonz"!!

I love the fact that the Sonz is a mad Tiger that will get an extra yard or three out of him living his dream alongside so many Tiger heroes.

Hence we took him with our first not Hobbs.
I'm surprised at you Craig, touting his potential as a forward.
Balta and Gibcus as the 2 back pillars, combined with Brown and Flossy is an awesome long term defensive team.
Can build premierships on it

I have no idea whether Gibcus could be a forward or not but I agree with the above. Key defensive pillars are going to be really important going forward

We do need a key forward however.

Nah I ve no idea about him dell to be honest.

Tantalising prospect 2 key backs with such huge athletic profiles, and there is also Miller who is a a pretty good athlete himself.

Just the way Tiger Furious described his attributes, it struck me that the Tigers recruiters may well have been working that angle.

Key defenders rarely go that high, (Weitering, Cox) are two of recent times, but the top Key Forward prospects do.

With Tarrant acquisition Gibbo won’t be required back for a while , expect to see him forward early on

In the end it doesn't matter where they go, does it.
If he becomes elite then it's a success.
And 2 elite backs will go a long way
